I'll take feathered bird/angel wings in the offchance they could be replaced with organic metals.

Butterfly wings.

I think I'd be a fabulous monarch butterfly.

I already have a order in for Dragon fly wings for a costume, though the bat wings would be far more practical.

Wing span is important consideration for Social Butterflies. Fairy wings at indoor parties are a pain to deal with, specially when trying to get through crowded rooms. Guess that's why most Fairy Art has them outdoors flying around gardens.

Sure, on butterflies. On humans, you could probably touch that puppy up with some Super Glue.

What color are these dragon wings? Do they come in greenish blue?

These hypothetical polls and Joph's surrounding, fictional scenes companies etc. are really intriguing. I chose bird wings because the Butterfly and Dragonfly were too fragile I'd think. Then between feathery and leathery, I simply thought about it and decided that I'd rather have the feathers.

If I were to get bird wings, would slathering them in Buffalo sauce be considered cannibalism?

I went with the leathery wings because I once had a nice series of repeat dreams in which I had wings like that.

Additionally, I'd have to get some Illidan style horns to go with them for the heck of it.

I'm allergic to feathers. And butterfly wings are just plain gay. Dragonfly wings could be okay, but I'm going to have to go with dragon wings.

edit: Can we have a combination? I'm thinking Legend of the Dragoon wings right now.

I voted leathery wings strictly on functionality, since they'll fold flatter. Naturally the first issue I'd have with wings is how to dress around them.

This, also for the fact that the leather wings would probably be strong enough to block bladed weapons. As for dressing, you just wear a wife-beater/pants/loin cloth combo and use the wings as a cloak like in the Gargoyles cartoon.

Having to clean the feathers would be a pain in the ***. Plus, bats are mammals. I'll go with the freaky bat wings.

But we'd probably need a wingspan of like six feet and chest muscles harder than steel in order to actually fly. Or, indeed, lift the ******* things. It'd be like walking around wearing a ******* hang-glider.

Based off the Canada goose (the bird with the lowest wingspan to weight ratio), a 6' human male would need a wingspan of approximately 32' to take flight. The additional chest muscles to power those wings would require a bone spur of about 2' to project from the sternum. In essence, your torso would look like that of a bird.

For Jophiel Bioenhancements Intl purposes, we can set you up with a 6' functional wingspan. It's all done with ball bearings these days.

I'm pretty sure carbon nanotubes will be the answer for structual stability in animal-designed human wings.

I'm not convinced that the two-wing model is necessary for organic self-powered human flight - I think a whirly-bird prop up top would probably do the trick, but I picked dragon-fly wings because they typically have the most intricate designs without being too flashy.

Yeah, but you can use less wingspan if you cut down on the time between flaps. Also it doesn't scale directly with size because of the way bio mechanics works. And if you build up musculature on/in the wings (or just have pseudo-synthetic systems) you can cut down on torso expansion.

On point, debating between the bat-like and bird-like.. It might come down to comparative strengths etc.

I was kind of assuming that when the wings were not in use, we'd have some shiny button to push that would conveniently fold the wings up into a stylish little backpack.
