Huh.

I was born in Michigan, but moved to Tennessee when I was ten. Apparently I'm still considered a yankee. Smiley: lol

I do get made fun of for how I talk sometimes down here, though. I think I have a southern accent, but with certain words, my roots come out. Words like pen and ten. Down here, they sound like pin and tin, but I go all nasal with the e and get made fun of.

And don't get me started on how they say oil or ruin. Smiley: oyvey

At least here, they tend to either dismiss or hide that belief pretty quickly, after being "corrected" by everyone.

I mean, it's kind of prohibitive to conversation. People would legitimately take offense, like you called them a nigger or something (which is oh so deliciously ******* ironic, and something that makes me laugh every time.)

Nah...we're doing just fine.

Hardly.

We're still smarting from the betrayal of General Lee at Appomattox, and the death of our sovereign right to govern ourselves and respect states' rights.

Goddamnyankees, looks like they got t' ya. Their fancy talk can be slicker than a hog on ice.

Earl and rune, or awl and rone? Have to figure out which dialect you're disparaging before I can decide whether or not to join in.

And let me say, I don't know why yankee is such an insult when New England is very clearly the best part of the US.

jk

not really. I live in the mid-Atlantic states. I keep feeling like it's southern here. :P

I was born in Fayetteville, NC and then moved to Michigan, so does that mean I qualify as being a Rebel? If so, I demand a recount.

Every once in a while, you can hear a little Arkansas in my speech, courtesy of the summers I spent with relatives there. It's like one of those annoying grease spots on a blouse that no matter how much you pre-treat and wash, never really goes away.

Okay I think I understand the whole smoking turkeys thing and shoving beer cans up butts, but I'm still trying to figure out what 'splitting wood' is.

We generally spend all day smoking turkeys and watching football. Stick a big fosters beer can up it's butt and smoke under apple wood 3hrs. In between games and just passing the time we'll split wood, weather permitting.

********* you're gonna burn down your double-wide when you throw the frozen bird into a garbage can full of boiling oil.

My mother and wife will be cooking and whatnot whilst I keep Thom occupied...

The Lions haven't won a game yet this year have they? I doubt I'm gonna bother watching that game.

A lot of us in Boston during baseball season. And, before it's use, it's generally prefaced and/or followed by curse words.

I usually wait until December to cook a turkey(I get one free from work every year) since I rarely take Thanksgiving off(it's not worth the hassle it takes to fight for the holiday off). My mom cooks the Thanksgiving turkey. I usually make the mashed potatoes and bring a pie or two.

When I do get around to making the turkey, I oven roast it after an overnight brine(I use the brine recipe from Good Eats) and brush it with a light coat of Dr Pepper(super concentrated by adding a quarter cup of pure DP Syrup to a cup or so of DP). I also stuff the cavity with an onion(chopped in half), a couple apples(also chopped in half) and some fresh herbs(Parsley and rosemary).

I do not watch football on Thanksgiving or any other day.

No, they haven't won a game.

They've won two! (The 'Skins in Week 3, and the Browns last week.)

Now, granted, they're playing Green Bay tomorrow, and they kinda got slaughtered the last time they played Green Bay (Week 4, 26-0 :-P)... but that might qualify as motivation. (It being the Lions, it qualifies more as a reason to give up before the game starts.)

I say yankee on the Constellation a lot. But then I also think it's 1862.

Quote:
respect states' rights

Problem with this statement is that the slave holding states did not respect the right of Non slave holding states in giving shelter to escaping slaves. They demanded a national fugitive slave law.
In 1812 when Massachusetts called for secession on the NE states the southern states all said that secession and breaking up the Union was not allowed.
I was born, and still live, below the Mason-Dixon line for those wondering.

We roast the turkey here, make mashed and sweet potatoes, vegetable and my moms awesome recipe for SWEET ROLLS. I did however learn to like prime rib at Elne's parents house.
