Any of you crazy bastards taking part in this fiasco? I mean, I'm up everyday in the wee hours of the morning, but heading to the mall at that time might endanger the lives of everyone involved.

PS - What's better? PS3 or Xbox?

Not doing anything myself, but one of my housemates is going to buy a big screen LCD TV or something; apparently he'll save around $1000 going on Black Friday. I went last year, but as I hate shopping and had no goals in mind, it wasn't really worth it. I did finish my Christmas shopping then, however. Ugh, I need to get on that...

You might want to take a look at this thread, which talks about the two. PS3 is now cheaper. XBox360 is what my friends prefer. I only have a Wii, so I have no opinion. Well, maybe I do. CoD: MW2 is on XBox360, and I hear that's great. Halo is on it too, obviously. But PS3 will get the next few Final Fantasy games. I'd personally go with PS3 due to liking RPGs more than FPSs.

I'm not taking part but I'm watching my nephew Thanksgiving afternoon/evening/Friday morning while my sister pitches her tent outside of Toys R Us at like 6pm to wait for their doors to open at midnight. She & my mother do that every year. They've gotten some really good bargins out of it but nothing that's enticed me to do it.

Then again, my 360 carked it a month ago and I really, really want to play Mass Effect 2 when it comes out...

Hmm, think I could get a deal on Dragon Age somewhere?

While I have in the past done some shopping on the day after thanksgiving, I've never participated in the late night mall and box store openings that have becosme so popular in the last few years.

I'm considering getting a PS3 solely for the fact that it is a very good blue ray player and less than the cost of most standalone blueray players. if it happens to also play games, that is a bonus. I won't be spending much money on a console system if i do get one though. my gaming computers can beat up all known consoles.

I have considered picking up opne of those x-box 360's from the microsoft ban rampage though cheap, on the theory that they can't keep them all banned foever.

This does not make any sense. You should examine the actual libraries of each system as goes rpgs instead of letting the ps2/xbox relationship cloud your judgment.

PS3, but only because I've had my 360 break on me twice. If you're okay with the malfunctions then go with a 360.

Going to Target and getting a flat screen TV for 250 to replace the one that got stolen from me.

As to PS3 and XBOX360...I'm going to go ahead and assume we're not talking about a backwards compatible PS3.

The games on both are often similar. The next two Final Fantasy games coming out are coming out for both the 360 and the PS3, so that shouldn't be a factor in the decision making for you. When it comes down to the difference between the two, one big factor is the online play. If you are into online playing, the 360 has a more populous online crowd over the PS3.

Graphics wise, the 360 is outdone by the PS3, but you can't tell for most games unless you're running 1080p, since the gaming companies don't often make the biggest attempts for big graphical differences between the two.

At this point in time, I'd say that the 360 has the edge on RPGs. The ones that are console specific are few and far between (that actually don't suck) for the PS3 atm, while you have a few more options for the 360.

However, in terms of future potential...I think the PS3 has it for RPGs.

360 does shooting games better. Period. If you are into sports, imo it's a toss up if you aren't counting online play as a big part in the decision making.

In terms of customer service...

I have had to get a PS3 and a 360 both repaired, and my experience with Microsoft was much better than the one I had with Sony. The 360 does break down easier, though.

Accessories for the two are about the same in cost, really.

The Blu-Ray is a factor that clearly favors the PS3, but again, if you aren't having a 1080i/p TV...then there's no real point to it over DVDs at this time.

I've asked myself this question. I am leaning towards the PS3 which has better graphics but I think XBox has more games and is less expensive.

Really, I like the PS3 because it has little Big Planet and a Blu Ray player.

Noc pretty much summed up the PS3 vs. 360 debate very well.

There are actually quite a few good RPG's for the 360 (from what I hear anyway) that are exclusive. The PS3 does have a few as well (Folklore and Disgaea 3, need I say more?), but not nearly as many. In all honesty I wish I had both, but I made the decision to get the PS3, and right now that's all I can afford.

Best Buy has doorbuster bundles on both the PS3 and the Xbox

I really want Little Big Planet but I don't want to plunk down the money for the PS3 just yet, otherwise that bundle with LBP and Ratchet would be mine.

I work in retail... so yeah... I'll be there... at like 3am trying to not die from the crushing hooves of customers who think paying less on an item is worth fighting someone over.

And the old "which console is better" debate... You are supposed to buy a console based on games and what that console can do for you.

I have bought consoles (and an arcade Neo Geo stand-up) in the past for one single game, and I have yet to be disappointed in any of my purchases.

It's always about the games you want to play, never about how powerful a console is, IMO.

Yup. Best Buy doorbusters on black friday have most "new" games for around $35.

I Downloaded my copy, & paid, & the PC version is slightly cheaper.

What Nads and DeadsideDemonLady said.

As for the XBOX 360 vs PS3 someone mentioned the PS3 has better future potential. Potential doesn't mean **** for consoles. It's all about the library available. I would lean more towards the 360 but both have their pros and cons, I just think a better game library gives one a better edge. My friend's 360 broke down but he got it replaced quickly and with very little effort or headache. He also bought a $15 cooling fan and hasn't had a problem with his new one at all.

Planning on hitting up Best Buy for Dragon Age too... we need to get it for the 360 or we'd have just bought it online. (My husband and I enjoyed just passing the controller back and forth when we played Mass Effect, we figure it should work out fine for Dragon Age too.)

I've never done black Friday shopping before, though...not really sure what to expect or how early we need to be there. 5 hours before opening enough, or does it have to be an all night thing?

My wife is out now, Toys R Us is having a midnight thing.

I'll vote for PS3, I have all 3 current gen consoles, I like my PS3 the best. Just depends on what you like to play, the fact that it's a blu-ray player is a nice plus. Also, FFXIII is going to be on both consoles, but the last I heard the xbox version would be 3-4 disks...no thanks.

Nope sleeping in tommorrow, but a few nitpicky things about the PS3 Xbox debate:

Quote:
Well, maybe I do. CoD: MW2 is on XBox360, and I hear that's great

COD: MW2 is on PS3 as well.

Quote:

False, only FFXIII is going to Xbox360, FFXIII: Verus (better looking one anyway) is still a PS3 exclusive, unless you mean FFXIV which is at the moment also a PS3 and PC exclusive (though they have stated they may "try to work to see if they can put it on 360").
