You make it sound like a Fascist adaptation of Oliver.

We were forced to sing religious hymns and songs at school. It doesn't mean that we believed them.

Then again... I can't imagine any kids being told to sing the praises of Gordon Brown.

Is this actually true? They forced some kids to sing songs about how great Mr O'Bama is? That is a little worrying. But about as worrying as me being affected by the next Ice Age.
