Wait, what the hell just happened? Did someone change the channel? This is no longer about computers, but banned socks? I know we derail everything, but come on...
I'm cutting back in here.
If the Computer was for Jonwin use only Smash would be right.
A new computer we build will be for my use.I haven't played EQ in well over a year and gave Jonwin my account.
I want a computer that will play LOTR:O and be able to handle the upgrades to the game for the next few years.
My current machine did okay when LOTR:O came out, but became too sluggish with the last few patches and upgrade. I can't group or go into Bree without long waits for the graphics to load.
Since I have a Life membership, it would be nice to be able to play the game I paid for.
And it is always a good policy to stay on Kao's good side and refrain from making sock puppets.

WOW a thread of mine is now a 2 pager. This has not happened in years.
Oh and yeah I should have titled it build Elne Clare a new computer. Silly me.
She will have to list her current set up and see what we can do with it. Probably take a bit of Kao's advice and see about a graphics upgrade as well. She likes graphics, where for me its not that big a deal.

So this new machine does need good graphics and staying power for future games. I'd go with Kao's posts, pay $500 in hardware and also get Windows 7 Home Premium.

I made my own computer out of guinness and the dreams of children. It runs windows 7, and doesn't afraid of anything.

Chiming in here with a bit of a diff request: Any computer reccomendations for someone that just buys new comps roughly every 8+ years(and for around 600-700ish)?
Been using a comp that I bought in 2001 to play FFXI for a few years. I either play FFXI on it or mostly surf the net/word process/browse the youtubes/and fart around facebook.
I keep whatever computers I use in relatively good shape thanks to my little bit of know-how, combined with having friends who are nerdier than I am.
Its going to be a birthday present from me to me, so what do you guys reccomend?

Well, ends up my computer had become home of several generations of dust bunnies and they shorted my motherboard when I open the case to put new memory in. So we went and order new mb, an AMD dual core cpu and 2 gig and letting the shop build it for me. I haven't had much luck working on my computer the last few years, so thought it best to let someone I thrust put it togetter. It is a early b-day present instead of the surpise Jonwin had waanted to get me. He's using the info for book mark right now and I don''t feel like typing much on this old laptop right now.
Also getting new power supply since old one didn't have the right pins. I'll make more upgrades as I can afford it. Keping win xp home for now.
Meanwhile I either use Jonwin's computer or this old IBM thinkpad, my sil used in college. Batery is dead and the enter key broke, but it lets me craw around the internets at least for now. was just going to use for internet, since he put windows xp pro and no room for anything more then firefox on hard drive. If I can get the cd rom to work on it, I would like to reformat it and install Linux.
