E-mail I received from my senator asking people to rank the various public option... options. Take it if you feel so inclined (nothing indicated it was only open to IL residents). Or don't. I assume they're trying to judge how far they can compromise to gain votes without annoying the majority of Americans who want a public option. Well, that and collect e-mail addresses Smiley: laugh

I like the opt-out option, personally.

I would probably go for opt-out too.

It may end up saving me money over the all state plan, since many of the red states who argue against this would probably opt out (the irony being they probably need it the most).

If it goes well for the Dems - if the price of health care drop is worth the waiting time for coverage - I wonder if it would shift the R/D imbalance in the south as more of them would realize their congressmen were full of crap about "commie" health care.

If I take the poll, can I win a car?

Being as I live in one of the red states that would be screwed by opt-in AND opt-out, my biggest support is for the mandatory 50-state robust public option.

Because, as the "Students are dumb" thread over in the OOT showed, people in Georgia, even college students, are goddamn stupid, and would never approve opting in, and would probably ask to opt-out.

Only if people living in a state that opted out would be able to cross state lines to get a public insurance policy from another state.

You could but I doubt the two would be related.

No, fuck that. Human rights supersede states' rights. This is disregarding the innate and blatant hypocrisy of a plan like that: a public option isn't public or an option if it's not actually and effectively ubiquitous.

Maybe if, what Belkira said.

Opting out should be at the exact same level of choice as opting in: as the individual person decides, not at the whim of a more easily obscured local level of denial.

Personally I want universal health care, but unlike most liberal minded people in this country I actually do identify as a socialist. =x I'd be happy with the public option for now though, with no opt in/out. I currently have no idea where I'll be living once I finish school and get a job, so I'd prefer it if the whole country had the public option available. Of course, I would hope that as a high school teacher I would get full benefits, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, and everyone deserves health care. In my, not so humble opinion, health care is a human right, not a privilege.
