Well, parts of the rest of the world. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the poor in most first world countries aren't much worse off than those in the US. Given the social nets in most of the first world, they may even be better off.
Saying that poor people in the Southwestern states or Appalachia or on Indian reservations in the Dakotas aren't as bad off as Congolese diamond miners because they have bigger homes than your average residence in densely packed European cities such as Vienna was just bizarre though. I mean, it's transparent why they'd compare it like that but it's weird that they couldn't come up with something less obvious.
