The leader of the British National Party has been given Airtime on the BBC. Its causing a storm

I deplore the BNP, but I am very interested to see how this man handles himself and more importantly I'll be interested to hear how we (aka, the rest of the country) respond to him. While knowing that this man and his party are vile, I also appreciate that he is gaining support because the main parties are not listening to some of his supporter base concerns.

I'll post how I feel after the event. Anyone else watching?

I'm planning on watching this, assuming I can stay awake . I find it interesting the amount of outrage his appearing on Question Time has provoked - don;t get me wrong, I find Nick Clegg an annoying assmunch, but I guess my point of view is that by being given airtime he gets a chance to publicly prove that (yet again!).

I'm hoping that questions are raised regarding the EHRC ruling that the BNP be open to all nationalities, I really would be interested in seeing his response to the ruling that the BNP must revise its constitution so that it doesn’t discriminate in its membership on grounds of race, gender or religious belief.

I just heard about this on NPR. Sounds like the people that gathered to protest this guy really have it out for him. The protesters had all crammed into the lobby of the BBC studio, but when someone learned that the BNP guy was leaving out the back they all ran around to the back of the building at a sprint. Since that pretty much cleared out the lobby the guy left through that way, but his car still had trouble leaving the grounds because of protesters blocking the gates.

From what I was able to gather from the piece, it sounds like this BNP is the British equivalent of the KKK, if it were to form into a political party. Smiley: eek

Liking Bonnie Greer. It's a very strange atmosphere, all the people who're so angry they can barely speak.

Yup, I did :) Blame exhausted holiday planning for me ******** that up . In regards to his speech, he's just mentioned 'a friend' who was a member of a 'tottally non violent' wing of the Ku Klux Klan .

(on his denial of the holocaust, and him claiming the law forbids him from explaining his views on the subject)

"Well, I would explain myself but the law states..."

then Jack Straw interjects:

"Nick, if you want to explain yourself, as Minister for Justice, let me tell you you can do that.."

Its still not finished but I will just say ...

We let the clown talk, and he did not dissapoint. Keeping him silent would have given him a false legitimacy, now he is a laughing stock.

Well done BBC Smiley: nod

I'm still watching the programme on Iplayer, but just so people know how utterly wonderfully intelligent this fellow is, here is (to date) his stupidest quote :

Quote:
“I am well aware that the orthodox opinion is that six million Jews were gassed and cremated or turned into lampshades. Orthodox opinion also once held that the earth is flat…I have reached the conclusion that the ‘extermination’ tale is a mixture of Allied wartime propaganda, extremely profitable lie, and latter day witch-hysteria.” - Nick Griffin

Yeah, except that when the world was flat, we did not have irrefutabl evidence through paperwork, radio interviews, and camera footage . We kinda have proof of the whole jew killing thing . Idiot .

Haha, he was such a clown. It was pretty cringing how retarded and incoherent he was. I'm almost a bit disappointed. I'm not sure how else to explain it, but it was a bit like watching an English Varrus.

Yeah, also, just because was orthodox opinion was wrong once doesn't make it wrong every time. He was constantly on that level of retardation. What a joke he was.

Retarded, for sure. But with an astonishing amount of support.

And thanks to a link provided by Something awful.com you can now see where some of the retards live and you can even phone some of them up!

Yeah, and also like modern day Pubbies. It's all cyclical.

Well, yes and no. The real reason why the BNP has been doing well is because of voter apathy. They got 2 members of the BNP elected to the European Parliament recently, but both got less vote than they did at the previous election. The only reason why they got elected was because less people voted overall, and so their proportion of the vote was higher. But the actual numbers show a decrease.

And everything being relative, it's important to keep in mind that the National Front leader in France got to the second round of the Presidential election in 2002, that one of the party who's part of the governing coalition in Italy are avowed neo-fascists, that the Austrians had Jorg Haider in government, that the Swiss People Party put up these kinds of campaigning posters, etc, etc...

So while the BNP isn't great, it's not too bad either. Relatively low support, and when placed in the spotlight, their leader disintegrates as a mumbling, stumbling, incoherent joke of a man.

You think he'd learn...
