I am in dire need of a new phone and have been looking at likely replacements. We are on Sprint and I currently have a Motorola i335 which is pretty blah.
It's rubberized and durable, but it has the battery life of something that doesn't last very long on batteries. (think of running your PC on a 9v Duracell)
As a field repair tech I'm on the road an awful lot and sometimes need internet access at a site with a broken computer. I also put my Creative Zen in the washing machine a few months ago so need a new mp3 player.
The Blackberry Curve 8330 looks like a really good deal.
I'm liking what the reviews say and I will hit up a Sprint store soon to touch&feel one on display. Anyone here have any comments?

They had a lot of problems with their rollerballs but I think the current revisions have fixed it. I use it occasionally as a work phone when we go to conventions and it's nice. I'm not fond of RIM's web browser though but it's probably better than whatever Motorola was using as a browser.
Reviews say that Opera Mini solves that issue very nicely.

I have an 8330 with sprint myself. Fantastic phone, though I wish the internet was faster. I got an 8gb micro SD card for it so it doubles as an MP3 player quite nicely. In fact, I liked it so much, I bought my kid sister one too. With an additional 8gb card for her phone, it easily replaced her Creative Zen for music purposes as well.
Go with the Curve you won't be sorry. Blackberry is quality. Ive had BB Pearl, Curve, Bold and I even loved the Storm I got through my Job even though imo the IPhone is the only fully touch screen phone that is actually responsive.
The track ball on some of the earlier models could sometimes give you problems but RIM has always been pretty could about fixing little annoying things that pop up on their phones.
Gotta warn you though BlackBerry can get addictive once you get one you will have a hard time giving it up.

I've had a curve for the last year and a half for work, and I'm pretty happy with it. The ball did get a little flakey on me, but sounds like they've addressed that.
Some people are like slinkies, they aren't really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
I haven't gotten my hands on one yet, but I've heard some very good things about Android phones. You might want to look into that option.
I love my curve. It's pretty plain and simple, but a phone is a phone. If I want stupid apps, I'll install them on my pc.

I am interested in the Android platform (I am a Google fanboi and almost creamed myself when I heard "Google is making a cellphone!") but due to bugetary constraints it's just not feasible right now. The only Android phone I can get as an upgrade/replacement on our plan is the HTC Hero at $180 but the Curve is only $50.

My son had the 8230? I think. It was a pearl. I may have even posted in that thread linked above. He went through 3 in a very short amount of time and ATT ended up giving him a tilt because the BBpearl just could not stand up to his usage. Please be advised my son is a texting king, maxing at over 37,000 in one month. However, most of the kids around the town here have given up on BBpearl because of the scrolly ball. It falls out very easily.
Once you go into the store you may see something more to your liking. However, cost and usage are two things to strongly consider when purchasing a phone. I got Trey the BBpearl because it was $99 at the time, and his first "brand new" phone, all his others were hand-me-downs. He lucked out and got the $500 tilt as replacement.
