But I digress. I started Birth Control when I was 15, and it wasn't because I was having sex. I makes me sad to think that in certain parts of this country, just because of a stupid religion that I don't even prescribe to, I might not have been able to get that prescription filled.

Yes, but according to them, unmarried women shouldn't be having sex anyways. Smiley: lol

I just think it's complete and utter bull **** that someone can get away with not doing their job because it violates their religious beliefs. If any part of a job violates your religious beliefs, find another job that doesn't.

You do get that he's just a justice of the peace. He basically witnesses stuff and signs documents. He can't (or shouldn't) be sued since he didn't cost the couple anything or deny them anything. The article and OP titles aside, he didn't do anything which would prevent them from being able to marry. He just didn't want to be the one signing the document. It's not like there aren't a hundred other people in the area who could do this.

That's not the point. He refused to do his job. When normal people refuse to do their job, they get fired.

The only "issue" I see is that apparently in Louisiana it's an elected position. I think he'd have to resign though, unless the governor has the power to fire him, & he's not sorry about it so I doubt that'll happen.

After this incident, it's not like I can see loads of interracial couples seeking this guy out to wed them, so they'll just have to go to one of the other JOP's in the area, of which, I'm sure there are plenty.
