Maybe because he's not so much a "reporter" as he is a right-wing commentator/activist for something called the "Conservative News Service."

Michael Moore isn't the liberal hero you pubbies think he is. He is in fact a fat, annoying, stupid, idiot, who irritates both those on the left and right.

However..

The headline reads as so:

Quote:
Millionaire Filmmaker Michael Moore: ‘Capitalism Did Nothing For Me’

But here is the full quote, separated quite cleverly from the beginning of the quote by an advertisement by a terribly awful website:

Quote:
Moore said: “Well, capitalism did nothing for me, starting with my first film. You know, I had to pretty much beg, borrow and steal,” he said. “The system is not set up to help somebody from the working class make a movie like this and get the truth out there."

While this rings true for pretty much every director's first movie ever made, I must ask that you use less biased sources while trying to take shots at the Democrats. Yes, he's still a hypocrite, but you're saying it for the wrong reasons.

I would also like to point out that while his films have grossed $300 million dollars, only a small fraction of that went to him.

Some of it went directly to the theaters hosting the films.

Most of it went to the studio that produced the film, and the paychecks of all the people that went into the credits. Moore's take is included in that, and probably some subsequent royalties from every DVD sold later on.

The article says $50 million went to him. He refutes that amount. I suspect the "Where did it go?" involved him using it to fund projects and movies the studios wouldn't otherwise pay for.

The article listed several projects and how much wen to him. It's pretty clearly in the 10s of millions of dollars not matter how you slice it up.

Yes. And some of it went to him. I'm assuming you consider movie theaters capitalist enterprises? So... What does that make him?

Quote:

So your argument seems to be that it's somehow not "good" that the profits from his films got spread around to a number of people who were involved in their production, distribution, and presentation? That's normal. That's capitalism. And that's exactly what Moore has used to run cackling to the bank with his pockets stuffed with cash.

I don't hold him at fault for this. If he can get people to pay to watch his documentaries and read his book, then he clearly earned the money he has. But for him to somehow deny that he has personally profited from capitalism is still a big fat lie.

Quote:

I didn't see any refutation of the amount in the article. Did he do this elsewhere?

Quote:

No. The "where did it go?" comment was designed (like much of the "answer with an answer" format in his documentaries) to imply something to the audience without actually saying it. If he says it and it's untrue, he has lied. If he simply asks "where did it go?", he's not actually denying that he made the money, or that he still has the money, or in fact anything at all.

He said it specifically because he knows from years of using that exact technique that people like you will assume this means that he doesn't have that much money (or never got it in the first place). He makes a living skirting around the truth. This is no different.

Voice of dissent.

I like Michael Moore's films, and I've said it in a previous post, if you take them as gospel then you're a fool. As someone bringing social questions to the big screen, I think he's pretty much unsurpassed.

I can only assume that the hatred directed at him comes from people who cannot think for themselves. He's a journalist and if you do not think that he will bend the truth, trim comments, insert sound bites to prove his point, then you're a fool.

ThiefX, you're a fool.

I think of him as a great big weight sitting on the left side pan of the scale. It does nothing more than offset the great big weight of people like Rush Limbaugh that are plopped down on the other side of the scale. It's ALL shock-jock, over-the-top, propaganda that is created with just enough truth to call it non-fiction.

And it works. Opening peoples eyes through TV is better than the blinkered masses bumping their way through life. If he didn't hit the spot every now and then you wouldn't see so many right wingers trying to diss him so often.

So, someone who profits from a broken system cannot recognize that it is, indeed, broken?

Does it make sense that Michael Moore makes more money making movies than a high school teacher?

This reminds me, The Coen Brothers have a new movie coming out called The Serious Man. It's set in Minneapolis, maybe we'll see Nix in it.

The Coen Brother's parents were both teachers.

And I can only only assume you are defending a guy who has to distort the truth by bending it, trimming comments to make it appear people said something they did not, inserting sound bites to make people like you believe what he is selling is the "truth" because you're an idiot.

Because only an idiot would believe that it was necessary to do that because if the truth was what Moore was selling then doing the things he does would not be necessary.

You Goggy are a Idiot.
