Luckily, Chicago's major competition is Rio de Janerio which is six blocks of tourist area surrounded by thirty square miles of sprawling slums and violent death traps. Smiley: laugh

If there was no sensational video tape of this, you and everyone else outside Illinois wouldn't have known it existed. Maybe you should be concerned about all disturbing crimes, and not just those sensationalized in the media.

Ticksy,

Did you see the video? Doesn't it disturb you that this sort of thing can happen in the USA?

Of course it does. What kind of idiotic question is that? This is hardly the only crime going on though, and it's hardly limited to Chicago.

I think you and Trickybeck are both equally disturbed, which is to say not at all.

Absolutely. I think Obama should put some sort of private Presidental Security Force out on the streets. That'll help keep us safe so we won't have to be disturbed any longer.

Too bad we don't have some kind of ubiquitous and affordable system in place to provide treatment to miscarriages of health, huh?

They're only poor because Obama is in the White House. If a Republican was in there they wouldn't be able to leech off of the government so they'd all get jobs.

That's how it works, right?

By all means, high crime rate is a perfectly valid reason to decline a city's bid to host the Olympics. But then, the prudent course of action would be to cite yearly statistics, not link to a video of the most recent thing your goldfish brain latched onto.

This, of course, ignores the fact that the ONLY reason you posted this was because of your liberal fixation. I can honestly state that if, say, Oklahoma City was going after the Olympics, I wouldn't care one bit.

What's funny is you people assuming these thugs are "poor". So are we to assume all people who engage in criminal acitivity are so disadvantaged?

I'm curious what any of you would do had you watched something like this live? Do you think a couple of shots fired in the air might have disbursed the crowd and saved a life?

Street crime? Yes. White collar crime is an entirely different subject.

******* no. What are you, an idiot?[/s] Opening fire in the middle of a "gang fight" is a sure fire way to run up the dead body count.

It's a sure fire way to disperse the crowd if anything. Have you ever been at a football game where shots have been fired?

Can you really not see how the environment surrounding a football game is completely different than the environment surrounding a gang fight?

I'm just saying shots fired in the air disperses people. It's assinine to say that because there's a gang fight going on they won't run for cover upon hearing the shots.

What do you mean by 'ran by'? NY had a republican mayor and i can guarantee there was plenty of gang deaths in NY.

I'm not sure I see what the big deal is about this news story. 'Black kid dies in gang conflict' <- not news.

But in the gang fight, they'd duck behind the nearest object to return fire. Probably not as likely to happen in a sporting event.
