Are you thinking about working for one of those "security companies" that operate in Afghanistan? I mean, I don't blame you for wanting to go to Afghanistan, and I commend your bravery in doing so, but... a mercenary? Really?
Blackwater "contractors" are payed better, treated better, better armed, and better protected. If you're going to go be a crusader in Afghanistan it's definitely the smarter choice.
They will even find work for you stateside while you are waiting on your contracts paperwork (arming agreements, visas etc). They really do treat their employees very well and they have a lot of growth potential.
The only downside is that you would be a 1099 (self employed) so you would want to get a good accountant.

I was just thinking though that I don't know of any non specops guys that got hired. Soc-SMG hires "green" people (people who had little to no military experience) but their pay and treatment will reflect that. One of the instructors at the helicopter flight school that my husband attended is flying somewhere overseas - I don't know who get got in with though but Im sure the pay is good (good enough to pay off enormous flight loans)
