For the record, someone who can't read in at least three languages besides English is probably not going to make it through music school.

I had to learn to pronounce Italian (easy), German (harder), and French (omg!) for my School of Music auditions. And I still flunked them because I always had a @#%^ing cold on audition day.

Edit: Interesting. The comments keep repeating over and over again, from the same people.

They can, they're from suburban New Jersey. If they were from some rural backwater...Knoxville, say, it would be a lot less likely.

We pay people who want to play kid's games and put people who want to cure diseases into debt to go to the same institutions. What's your point?

And what is this "we" ****? What has Thiefx ever done to help any kid graduate, or learn to read for that matter?

Considering Ive being a paramedic for the last 3 years and if you add up all of the calls Ive been dispatched to that ended with a life being saved I am indirectly responsible for countless kids having the chance to graduate.

How about you?

Seriously? You want to use the "indirectly" tag?

I pay taxes. Because my taxes are used for things like public schooling, I am indirectly responsible for countless kids having the chance to graduate.

Gosh, this is fun!

I was 50% responsible in making a kid so, assuming he graduates, I'll be directly responsible.

How many "indirectly"s is one "directly" worth?

I think that is one of the most ridiculously self-serving sidesteps I've ever read.

I have volunteered time, yes, directly, to help people learn to read. This has included volunteering in both child and adult literacy programs.

I also spent extensive unpaid time tutoring people in high school and in college.

Indirectly, my ***. What have you actually done to promote literacy?

I can't really make out a single word the kids are saying (other than "Barack Hussein Obama") thanks to the ominous synthesizer drone dubbed over the top of it. That's actually a good bit of subtle psychology by whoever uploaded the clip.

But anyway, the first song was so simplistic, I get the impression that it was written by one of the kids. I also would bet that this is either being rehearsed because (a) Obama is visiting the school and they want to put on a little show or (b) it's a patriotic style America-pageant, in the manner of the "Mediocre Presidents" song number from the Simpsons.

I also realize that by discussing this seriously, I'm just lending creedence to the OP's conspiracy theory, but oh well.

So you think young children should be taught songs praising the president as if he were a king?

I have a feeling that you would have no problem with this if it were about Bush.

Absolutely not. That's fucking absurd. Praising him like a king... Smiley: oyvey

They should be glorifying him as to a God.
