Regardless, I'm not sure what your original point was for. Most people that get into teaching aren't in it for the money, they're in it for the oppotunity to teach and influence others. Regardless of that, $50k is more than a lot of people make.

Eh, I've known people who went right into a ~40k job without a college degree. And this was in the late 80's-early 90's so I'd suspect you can make significantly more in starting pay these days. This is assuming of course the people are competent etc.
Teachers generally come from the decently educated/non-retarded pool of labor, so you shouldn't base their pay off of the average of all people's salaries.
