I will rate you up so hard the green arrow goes ballistic, orbits the earth a couple of times and falls on Chicago with the destructive energy of an atomic bomb.

"Sort of"? "A bit black"? Nice, paulsol.

You are talking about representatives. In the US we've had Asian, black, gay, female representatives. That's quite a different thing isn't it. It's about regional acceptance and not about a nation promoting someone as their leader. I don't think it means the US is over racism and I don't act self-righteous about it. YOU say that Obama would rather be a leader in Europe. WHERE? France? England? Germany? Like THEY'D have a guy with an Kenyan father for their Prime Minister? What about Australia or New Zealand. No, he'd be an MP.

Stop acting like you have this pedestal that you can stereotype a country of 300 million with impunity. Your country's history of discrimination is too sketchy for that to happen.

Oh for fucks sake!

I'm taking the **** you silly cow.

We've got more than our fair share of stupid god-botherers, racists, sexists, child bashers/fuckers, talk radio twats and other assorted dimwits who live, fight and fuck at the bottom of our pond too.

You arn't the one country with a monopoly on fuckwits, we all have plenty of them.

On the other hand, the US is the one notable place that bangs on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on, about how fucking progressive you are, how we should all look to you as the pinnacle of civilisation, and are more than happy about spreading the 'American way of life', around the world, whether in a fast food wrapper, or compliments of an unmanned drone, or via your wtf crap television. So, expect to have the contradictions pointed out. Especially from non americans. And especially especially in the Arsylum.....

And I grew up in the town Darwin was born in. So I'm on his side. Smiley: grin

If the USA wants credit for electing a black President they need to do 2 things:

1. Elect a black President. Obama is a half caste and as much white as black.

2. Have the black presidential candidate actually earn his win. Obama stood against the most reviled, hated and loathed administration in the history of the US.

The man is called 'Obama', which sounds like 'Osama' to the rednecks, many of them think he's a Muslim, many Americans view him as a socialist or a communist, he's made anti war statements, and yet he STILL won by a landslide.

If he'd worn a beret and a string of onions, made his pre election speeches in French and blown his nose on a US flag on prime time TV, he STILL would have won by a landslide.

Get back to us about having a black President when you've actually got one worth talking about.

1. "Not black enough" Really, that's your platform?

2. Obama wasn't running against Bush, he was running against McCain.

The rest: Utter garbage, way to miss the entire game of politics.

And frankly, this whole discussion is incredibly asinine. Paraphrasing: Your moooore racist, Nuh uh, youuuuuur more racist. You hate liiiike black people, No Yooou hate black people.

The **** are you, 5?

No other nation in the world has done precisely the same thing at some point in history.

'the fuck?

Shit, even if you're going to get all panty-twisted about general election, he won the primary season against a candidate who was heavily favored up until the start of the season (and considered an even shot for the first part of that).

Oh well. At least I can feel good knowing that it's not just us 'Mericans who are dreadfully ignorant of the world around us.

People aren't ignorant because they point out a fact you don't like or don't understand.

The point being made was that any candidate from any party would have won against McCain that night, such was the loathing for the Bush administration and everything associated with it. A task made even easier by the fact he had as his running mate a woman that made Bush look like a limp wristed lefty.

Obama getting elected was no demonstration of a great racial enlightenment of the US public, as was being made out, but of the simple universal fact that if you happen to be in the right place at the right time you can get a break.

Beautiful! Sigworthy at least if my sig weren't so ironically perfect already, that is...

Not being one to cruise the far reaches of the Christian online world, I can't speak directly for the fringe crowd, but I suspect that there's a bit of one-sidedness to this story. Darwin in no way attempted nor argued against a divine creation. What many creationists are most opposed to is not the evolutionary concepts as Darwin developed them, but how they have been extended over time and used as an assault on religious belief.

Let's be honest here. A film about Darwin titled "Creation" is kind of a dead giveaway that there's going to be quite a bit of anti-creationism in the film. The bit in the article seems to focus on Darwin as a man who "lost his faith", yet there's no evidence of this in his life. It's amusing to see atheists attempt to hold up Darwin as some kind of model, when he himself specifically rejected the idea of atheism, but it hasn't stopped them.

Frankly, it's not surprising that religious folks might not like this film, and it's not purely because of backwards thinking. There's quite a bit of twisting of history to meet current convenience going on here.

Certainly, but he seems utterly shocked and enraged that it would occur when it's horrendously predictable.

Lots of historically smart people held otherwise incompatible or at least tenuously compatible beliefs that we need to use history to justify, similarly to how we hold up Christopher Columbus as an example of enterprise and explorative wonder, or Thomas Jefferson as a paragon of equality and freedom.
