I don't understand what that means.

But you aren't supposed to aim it very much. The idea is to fire after the katar is lodged into someone's sternum, not to shoot from a distance. There are two shots there, one use each. Would it actually work? I have no idea.

I guess if you punched someone in a mucous membrane, and then fired, technically it would propel phlegm away from the explosion at a relatively high velocity, so in a sense, yes.

'Catarrh' is a mucous discharge.

That was funny to me on so many levels, but now you've gone done and ruined it.

We need a canned laughter emote for the americans so they know when to laugh....

Less effectively than standard gun? Sure.

If we were talking about efficacy, I'd just talk about lightweight rifles.

Given the relative size of the blade and the tiny little pistols, I'm not seeing the point here. If I've already stabbed someone in the sternum with that thing, I really don't need to pepper him with a tiny little bullet, do I?

Yeah. I was pointing out that the two little flintlock pistols are attached such that they're facing in opposite directions. Even if we assumed that having a pistol attached to a bladed weapon makes sense, a flintlock pistol does not do well if it's held upside down, or even at an angle. Just the thought of designing something intended to be used as a blade first and then fired as a pistol when desired is comical. The layout of the attached pistols is just moreso...

Why would you even delude yourself into believing that I'd find something cool that was also practical?

It's a real weapon. you aimed it just like a real pistol, one at a time. The only advantage was that you could have two pistols loaded and ready to go with a ball and shot charge. all you had to do was pour some powder in the flash pan, Shoot, then flip it over and repeat. You would not have shot it sideways.

They had a slight tendancy to explode and kill the people who owned them apperently.

Totally worth it. The Falcon Punch is always worth it.

I call shenanigans! Gatling was like a modern era guy.

Clearly elephants would be FAR more detrimental as a projectile than as a slow moving, easily waylaid, weapon cart (did you all NOT see 300?!).

You'll note that I did not comment on Kao's gatling trebuchet... ;)

Or on the delightful nuclear rifle I listed who's blast radius exceeds it's range.

What about a fusion reactor cased in lead, and when you pull the trigger a tiny hole opens up and gives whoever you point it at cancer? Sure, they might have just shot you through the head, but in twenty years they'll croak themselves. Maybe less, if you're strong enough to carry a big reactor.

Better idea: the same thing, only with a supernova.

Well... That... And let's be honest here. A gatling trebuchet is just way cooler than some big blade thingie with teeny tiny pistols attached to it.

If you open the case up you'd be melted long before he had a chance to shoot you.

Thirteen million kelvin is just a number followed by a unit, Timelord. It can't hurt you.

Technically if you are in a sparse enough gas heated to 1270K it's not going to hurt you. You might have some low pressure problems. Space-suit fixes that.

Wonder if space suit could meet sparse enough gas at 13m K?

It's called a katar, not a big blade thingie, and I'd take one of those over a gatling trebuchet. The trebuchet might have the coolness factor, but it's not exactly mobile.

Anyway, my vote goes to the Urumi, which I could describe at length or just be lazy and link the Wikipedia article.

Greek fire.

By far one of the most advanced weapons of its time.
Nothing like unloading liquid fire on a rivals boat. Pour water on it.. Oh **** the fire is spreading... Stomp it out.. Oh **** im on fire... yea.. Greek Fire for the win.
