Have you ever wanted to know what books Allakhazam (big boss) prefers, what Pikko (ffxi admin) chose as her Favorite Kid Books, what books that Kaolian (forum wombat) wishes he had or Calthine (eq2 admin) reads and reviews?

NOW YOU CAN!!!

With ZAM Books you can:
•have and manage favorites list(s)
•have a wishlist
•you can rate and review
•read others users reviews
•purchase your book through Amazon via our site

Please give our ZAM Books addition a try and let us know what you think.

You can reply to this thread with a link to your ZAM Books page to show off, but I have set up a thread specifically for feedback. I'd really like to keep them centralized if I can.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Edit, no way to discern sep links

I've decided it will take about 80 years to import all my books into this thing.

Interesting.

I'm not aware of any demand for such a feature, it looks ungainly and ugly, it looks hugely awkward to populate, and it duplicates the features all amazon users already have.

Nice of Zam to provide a handy link to Amazon to purchase that book you gotta have because Alla liked it.

An Allakhazam book 'swap' feature might be useful.

Pretty much this. Is ZAM determined to turn itself into a social networking site at the cost of its gaming focus, thus running itself directly into the ground?

Probably just a response to the frequency of "what are you reading these days?" and "what are your favorite books/who are your favorite authors?" type threads.

I wouldn't read too much into it. So to speak.

Perhaps if there was a forum of some kind, within the Allakhazam forum system already in place, those types of threads could be moved to it, where other people interested in that sort of thing could go to read them.

Oh, if only.

I think it's more likely that it's a response to a % cut of any sales that Amazon receives from the Zam site. If you follow the trail of links on Zam Books, you eventually land in an Amazon shopping cart.

I don't know. I think sci-fi and fantasy novels fall close enough to the interests of most gamers that's it worth being involved in. It's not like it's really taking away from the game forums in anyway. Well, maybe some dev resources, but then again, this could easily help create more resources to hire even more devs.

What would be awesome...

Would be that if there was a special ZAM/Amazon coupon that gave a discount for the purchases that are made from the selected book lists (even if it's just 10%).

That would make me start looking through it, at least on a regular basis.

And if it were only offered to premium members, that would make me renew every single year. Smiley: nod

Well, I'm a sucker for lists like this. I used to have a full list of all my books and comics of all kinds, but due to computer problems, I lost that list and never bothered to catalogue the thousands again.

I doubt I'll do it with that application either though, but I might give it a go.

Not what it should be. I read a lot, and I'm mildly curious what other posters are reading. Not curious enough to climb up the greased poll you've implemented here to find out. Add flags for posters to indicate books they are currently reading and their favorite books. Add an option for posters to include a randomly generated list of 5 books they are reading and 5 of their favorite books in the sig space. Have these lists link to the poster's review of these books if one exists. You want a way to drive traffic to the books portal, not make it an inside joke that 100 people look at per month. You want lurkers and other posters to think "'On War' is really one of Smash's favorite books? I wonder why? Oh look, he's reviewed it in amusing fashion, why I think I'll purchase this item through this portal as it has provided me with information I didn't have in a casual manner and then more useful information when I took action. Kudos, Zam.com"

This currently has no hook. People interested enough to go through the current required effort to get to the portal probably already own the books, or have a favorite way of procuring them that doesn't involve you. You want traffic from casual readers, what you have now won't deliver it.

Good luck.

...they get 5 cents of every click-through purchase, thereby making enough money to make forum searching a free feature. Right?
