Liberals Blogs like the huffington post have this picture up on thier sites as a "conversastion piece"

This picture should not be used to make a "point" this young man's death is not a political statement, his own family asked that the picture not be used and pleaded with the AP not to run it and they did anyway.

Sickening.

At some point in this thread, the picture of W in front of that banner is going to come up.

Whoops.

I don't know really, how to feel about these sorts of things. You'd like to pretend that marines never die, and that wars are things never to intrude in our lives, but censoring or discouraging distribution of shocking and vile material makes it really easy to forget that wars are legitimately serious business.

Shame is often a really effective way to disbelieve reality, maybe always is, but I haven't thought about it long enough. I don't see, though, how making people aware of the consequences of their actions: endorsing or being complacent with a war, is a bad thing in any way. If it's shameless, then get rid of the shame.

I'm wondering why they took a photo of the guy instead of trying to help him.

Journalists can't interfere with their stories.

I'm wondering why you're posting about it and not flying to Afghanistan.

The journalists aren't getting paid to be paramedics.

I wouldn't expect for them to be paramedics. I'd expect for them to attempt to find a medic for a wounded person, which is something anyone is capable of doing. And something you probably would do, if you found a wounded person on the street.

You obviously haven't seen the image, have you?

http://www.tampabay.com/incoming/article1033549.ece
Edit:
This image is not very graphic. While you can tell there is a serious injury, it's not readily visible

Notice the two Marines, providing help to him? You know how paramedics tell onlookers to get out of the way? Do you know why they don't want untrained people gathering around the wounded trying to "help"?

It must be strange being such a giant cowardly quivering pussy that documentary news photographs of people who died frighten you. It'll be ok, though, little guy, don't worry. No one's going to ask you to put anything at risk for your country, it'll all be handed out to you for free using my tax dollars.

You're welcome.

Now that I've seen it, the picture is not at all that graphic. This reminds me of when people got all freaked out about the blue alien sideboob in Mass Effect.

I mean, really. The average highway roadkill has more gore than that.

I find the dichotomy between what is acceptable in entertainment media and what is acceptable in news reporting to be quite interesting.

Where exactly in my previous post did I say the picture scares me because it shows blood or someone dying?

Seriously where do you see that? I ask because this is not the first time you went off in some profanity laced tirade about something that was never even mentioned.

I will explain it again

The picture is being used to make a political statement. This kids parents asked that the AP not release the picture and they did anyway.

That is what bothers me.

And for the record. Im a Paramedic.

I spent 3 years as a EMT, spent 1 year working in a ER. 2 years as a respiratory Tech and 2 years working in a high Trauma area in California.

I think I can say with some certainty that blood does not bother me.

The family is being used to make a political statement.

If the son's image was being exploited, why go further and exploit the family?

Did you read the title of your thread? Maybe the second line?

Oh, that's not exploiting, because it's a position you agree with and support? Shameless liberal media, etc.

If all you really cared about was the family, and the soldier, you wouldn't have used the thing as a stepping stone to attack liberals. Instead just focusing on the photographer and the editor that allowed it through against the wishes of the family involved.

The sad part is you think that shamelessness is specific to liberals, or even generalized to the left through one instance of using a person as a means, when everyone in the history of the world does this. If it wasn't so excruciatingly common and totally accepted to use people as political tools, this situation might approach a blip on the radar. If liberals have no shame is is because no one has shame regarding this matter.

The sadder part is when you affect some concern through deontological morals but don't carry them through other aspects of political ideals, making you just easily manipulated instead of idealistically stubborn.

Either they can not print the picture and the world can pretend it didn't happen or the family can not read the article and pretend it didn't get printed.

Also ThiefX, way to use the family to attack liberals.

Do you post and act all mad when the press prints photos of celebrities that they begged not to have published? Or is this the sort of hypocritical anger you save for attacking liberals.

Wait.. let me guess... when a famous family begs the press, they're worth less than the family of a soldier, right?

Are you kidding me Joph?

You are equating a celebrity asking a Photographer not print a picture of them puking after drinking too much or a picture of a celeb who "forgot" to wear panties to the parents of a child asking the press not to print a picture of thier son as he lies dying?

You honestly think that this the same thing? You are actually trying to claim hypocrisy and using that as your example?
