HELP! newb XP issue!Follow

#1 Aug 27 2009 at 6:37 PM Rating: Sub-Default
So my pops, the "admin" on his windows xp system, can't figure out how to over-ride "admin-only" stuff, things that he'd never, being a ~70YO person, add admin-only blahblahblah to.

We're trying to get him some new ISP for ~1/2 the price but ~6x the performance (he has ~.7M/s download now, for $95/month from verizon.... don't ask me, he just brought it up to me now....)

He wants more than 1 speed test, and all i could give him was speedtest.net....

HELP ME save him money! All I need is some accurate ******** to make him realize $95/month for .7~megs download is ************ than 105/month for 10mB/S + phone + digital cable for 3 tvs.

Dunno, I pay $40 a month for 4MB/s download. So for almost double being 90, seems not completely unreasonable. I don't know that I'd bother paying that much, as 4MB does me just fine.

Not sure how bandwidth is an XP issue either... just sayin'

There is... And he can't conceptualize that 15.X/$60/month for 6 months (for cable/internet/phone), switching to $109/month (for the same 3 services) after 6 months is > .7x for $96/month (for only "DSL" internet) for forever....

He's not a stupid man, regardless of what this post shows, he's just a 72yo man who is comfortable with what he has, even if it's not a good idea. He'd rather not move on to something he has no experience with, when what he has hasn't done him wrong. Even tho he has "verizon DSL", he still uses AOL's browser to surf the net.. even though I've told him repeatedly that it's pointless to log in to AOL when he has full-time internet access.

I just don't want verizon to be raping him monthly.... Help me prove to him he needs to change his ways. I need links.

#7REDACTED, Posted: Aug 27 2009 at 10:00 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This would work if all the first page results didn't include "speed test" (ffs he's old, he doesn't look at the actual address.)

If he's happy with what he has, quit pestering him.

If you're not happy with what he has, go get your own.

He sees "speed test", and it's all, "but we just did that!" It's very frustrating. I love him, but sometimes, when it comes to technology, i want to slap him.

Well, the type of service you're looking for is called a speed test. If the website says something different it wouldn't be what you need, would it?
