Obama had Kennedy killed (death panels you know?) so that he would have someone famous to name the health bill after!

Its obvious when you really think about it, eh gbaji?

Kinda reminds me of two bloggers on a conservative site saying that they didn't like Jindals speech being repeated by every single liberal blog, online news site, and even referenced on CNN. Yup. It's just like that...

Well, except that it was more than two bloggers but I suppose we create our own little realities sometimes.

No. It's wrong to take advantage of someone's death to push a political agenda.

Given that this legislation was Kennedy's political agenda, I doubt he'd agree with you. I suppose we'll never know for sure but I rather doubt that he'd be offended or feel it's "wrong" to invoke his name.

If you want to honor his legacy, pass it. Cleanly. Respectfully. Honestly.

That's what's going on right now. As I said, all the sudden GOP hand-wringing is little more than fear that they're not going to get their way. The rest of it is your typical partisan "smear the other guy" bullshit.

The poor beleaguered republican party. First the economy collapsed just in time for Obama to get elected. Now, look what the Democratic party has done now! Teddy Kennedy died just in time for health care reform. What's next? Will we have global warming just to ruin the republican pro-capitalist business agenda? DIABOLICAL THOSE DEMOCRATS!

No. Because Jophiel, in this very thread, on this very page, dismissed Conservative opposition to the idea of naming said proposed health care reform bill(s) after Kennedy because "these were the same guys who spent all day yesterday shout "MARY JO!!" over and over".

It has meaning in this thread. Specifically, to show that Joph is a twit.

I heard Steve Innskeep almost yelling at the head of the Republican party today on NPR about health care. It was odd, but kind of...refreshing in a way.

Wait. Jophiel was the basis for your 1000:1 comment? Jophiel? I mean he's great and all, but I don't think he's 1000 people at once. Hell, 5000 considering Locke's friends.

So it's ok to name a bill that takes away individual rights, "The Patriot Act" but not ok to name a Healthcare Bill after Kennedy.

Well, frankly, it's our turn to play. You had your shot & blew it.

Now bend over for Daddy Obama, he's got a friend for you to meet.

In before "Obama gave Ted Kennedy brain cancer".

The Columbian wrote:
Raymond and Louise Denny of La Center were surprised last week to receive a mailing from Michael Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee, entitled "2009 Future of American Health Survey."

After reading it, their surprise turned to outrage.

They were especially irked by the following:

"It has been suggested that the government could use voter registration to determine a person's political affiliation, prompting fears that GOP voters might be discriminated against for medical treatment in a Democrat-imposed health care rationing system. Does this possibility concern you?"

Raymond Denny, a retired insurance underwriter, characterized the question as akin to "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?"

"It's so blatantly lopsided," he said. "I called them up and said, 'This is ridiculous!' They just said, 'All right.'"

The RNC did not return a call requesting comment.
[...]
the survey also asserts that "Rationing of health care in countries with socialized medicine has led to patients dying because they were forced to wait too long for treatment," and asks, "Are you concerned that this would be inevitable in the U.S. under the Democrats' plan?"

Heh. Smiley: oyvey

Edit: Story (with survey) as reported in Politico. Steele admits to sending out the mailing and only says it may have been "inartful" wording. The AMA is blasting the mailing for its lies.

Stay classy, Republicans!

If it wasn't for Kennedy getting the Americans with Disabilities Act passed, you'd still be too retarded to use a computer.

You're welcome.

Ted Kennedy was an effective Senator. But he did basically kill someone. Even if he wasn't drunk, he still walked away from a human being who was dead or dying. He didn't even tell anybody about it until the next morning. That's what's most damning. Also, it's not like he was some college kid who made a mistake either, he was 37.

That doesn't change all the good things he did; although the extent of how good they are is up to debate, as is any politician's legacy; I'm willing to admit that he was very effective in getting things done. But, if we're talking about Ted Kennedy as a person overall, it seems really silly to me that a large part of the conversation wouldn't be about what happened that night. I mean, I'm no Bush fan at all but honestly consider if he had done something like that in his 30's; the left would never let that go. Nor should they have if it was the case.

Now, did he do plenty of good things? Of course. But he did one really really horrible thing, and then quite a few immoral things, and how immoral they are is up for debate (getting expelled from harvard for cheating, cheating on his wife, etc).

I just want to add one more thing. And being from Mass, it kind of pisses me off more for some reason. His plea before his death for a change in the law that governs how a vacant Senate seat is filled was ridiculous. This shows that he's not concerned with what the people want, but what is best for his personal interests or those of the Democratic Party. When Mitt Romney was governor in 2004, he helped get the law changed to it's current form: there's a special election. But, Deval Patrick is a Democratic governor, so he wanted to reverse the very law he helped get enacted so that the governor can appoint someone again. He said that the people had a right to be represented, yet he missed 97% of the Senate roll call votes this year.

Anyway, I'm not saying he was the worst person ever, but come on, if you're gonna go on and on about all the great things he did, you have to mention these glaring flaws. I would expect the same kind of treatment for any politician, before anyone tries to throw a "Well Republican Senator/Governor/Rep SoandSo did X" because I'm not Republican, or conservative either. I just hate hypocrisy and spin.

Sure. After the fact. When he's being written into the textbooks in about thirty-ish years.

Damning the recently deceased is just sick. There are a couple people on this planet that I feel are truly despicable people, but I would never be happy that they died or take some "HAHA he got his just reward now didn't he!!" attitude. It's a matter of being classy and mature.

Hmmm...

I find this statement odd.

"That's what's most damning" being the odd part.

"Damning" could be seen as a religious term in this case, especially with the religious anger thrown around in this thread already.

"Most damning" implies that not telling someone was worse than killing someone. Odd.

And sure, mention his flaws. No one cares pointing out his flaws; usually it's the "he's burning in hell!" comments that tick people off. I don't think you'll find many sane people who will go "Teddy did good killing that girl!" But, especially when someone JUST died, you tend to skate past the negative aspects. We did the same for Reagan (granted, he didn't kill anyone that I know of, but he made a lot of bad decisions in my opinion that caused tons of suffering).
