with my 7 yr old. Now that I've gotten over the "Oh crap how the hell do I do this without ******** up" fear, Im finding I really get a kick out of watching his mind work and the things he comes up with!
The other day we found out a friend is expecting a baby, total surprise. I told Xavier our friend was going to have a baby and his face lit up. he was so happy for them (and he loves babies). He asked me if they were planning to have another and I said no, it was a surprise, just like Baby Soren was. So I used this to drive home the fact that when he gets old enough to think about sex to remember these two cases in that it only takes one time of not being careful to make a baby. He chewed on this for a moment then looked at me and said
"Do you remember how you told me that the sperm can last awhile in the womans body?"
"Yes, I remember"
"Do you think maybe you got pregnant with Soren from the left over sperm from when you got pregnant wit Ashe?" ( I nearly choked laughing)
"No hon, it doesnt last that long. Only a few days."
"But..... (gears working here)... that means you had sex with Daddy after Ashe was born!!!"
"Uhhh, yeah, it does."
"But why would you have sex if you didnt want a baby????"
"...because when you have a spouse sex can also be fun. But only when you're old enough to be responsible for a child"
"Fun? Sex doesnt sound fun. It sounds gross. You and Dad are weird!!"
"I'm glad you think that. Youre too young to think that its fun just yet. One day though, in a few years, you'll see it differently"
"Mom yo keep saying that. You're like Hobbes telling me one day Im going to like girls. Dont you get Im like Calvin? I think girls are ok, but Im not going to have sex with them when Im older!!!" (Im trying soo hard not to laugh now)
"Well thats good then. But if it happens one day you do, at least you know what can happen"

Possibly less than two if anyone of your acquaintance is pregnant. Right now, we have several friends who are pregnant or whom have just had babies, and so it became necessary to explain to Tristan that our friends have babies in their bellies and that he once lived in Mama's belly. Now he'll come up to me and want to see my navel and say, "I lived in Mom's belly button!"
