So then it wasn't Bush who took us to 13k in 2007 but the Democratic Congress! Hooray for the Democrats!!!

yeah the economy is really picking up there. Maybe if the Dems tax us to 15% unemployment that'll really get the market going.

Wait, you said that the economy was picking up because everyone was happy about health care reform failing. Now you're saying that the market's not recovering? Does this mean that everyone is sad about health care? Is health care going to pass?

Does Varus just have no idea what he's taking about but grabs random talking points and chants "Boo Obama!" over and over mindlessly?

Stock market and employment market are not the same thing. And I'd suggest that most people care more about the later than the former.

They'll probably pass something. Hopefully, it'll be toothless and minor. The last thing we need right now is yet another ridiculously expensive government program which at best simply spreads already dwindling resources around.

There's a kernel of truth to what he says though. Obama has been banking on his own personal popularity to sell otherwise unpopular social programs to the public. The events of the last month have indicated that his well has pretty much run dry.

I said the market was on an upswing. And even that's relative considering it just didn't drop as much as the "experts" thought it would.

I'd be surprised if health care passes. There are enough senators up for election next year to prevent them from passing something most of the people think is a bad idea. Right now we're in the eye of the storm which is why the market hasn't continued it's decline. There is guarded optimism in the market because of the publics reaction to this move towards a single payer govn healthcare plan. And yes Obama said that's what he's looking for. That coupled with the fact that the politicians aren't in DC figuring out new ways to spend money is obviously going to lead to the aforementioned upswing.

If this govn health care plan passes the markets will shoot back down. If it fails it will continue upward.

An upswing isn't an improvement?

Depends which indicators. Some are rising, some merely slowed their descent.

That's the exact same thing you said about House and the banking bailouts in 2008.

There's only one way to find out - a game of wits. No, NOT the iocane one! Chess - but it only during normal working hours.

Because after work sitting in front of a computer is the last thing I want to do. On a side note I've already run 2 miles today and a couple of sets of curls with my 35lb weights.

Now that i've finished "October Horse" i'm re-reading all of Jules Vernes classics, 20k leagues, journey to the center of the earth, and around the world in 80 days. I should be through with all three of those by the end of august.

I'm starting to get burnt out so I'm looking at taking a road trip to visit my aunt in naw lens at the end of the month for a week.

Mindel,

Sh*t i'm feeling great. Been up since 6 ran with the dog, who incidentally caught a **** (racoon) this morning. He actually listened to me when I called him off of it to. Now I have my coffee and already ahead on business type stuff.

Your dog is pretty cute. Smiley: thumbsup

I was so proud the other day when my Abby dropped a dead bird she found when I told her to. God, the look on her face betrayed the soul-twisting torment she experienced as she let go of it. Smiley: lol

Of course the fact that he called the dog off was information enough.

The sheppard I had before this one I saw eat a groundhog in two bites, bones and all. Incidentally I was picking okra when it happened.

I generally don't want my dogs biting things unless I tell them to.

And? If I assume you dislike the patriot act, then does that mean you equally dislike the stuff Obama has been doing? In what other ways are they similar? Or did you just figure you'd throw a "funny" out there and hope no one noticed that you failed to address the issue at hand, much less the statement you quoted and responded to.

Want to try again? Do you agree or disagree that Obama is blowing a lot of his political capital? Do you agree that this process has rapidly hurt his popularity? Do you think that this is a problem for him? How do you think this affects his effectiveness in the next year (like when it really would help the Dems up for re-election to have a popular president)?

And for the record. IMO, the Patriot Act itself had pretty much zero impact overall on Bush's popularity. The spin placed on the Iraq war and WMDs was the biggie that got him. The Patriot Act also was not nearly as expensive, expansive, nor nearly as likely to infringe a US citizens rights as either Cap/Trade or most current Healthcare plans. But that's just my opinion...
