Congrats on the new pad. Now you get to visit home despot about, oh, a couple times a month and you never have to wonder what to spend free time on: there is *always* that new project. I installed a 5 zone sprinkler/drip irrigation system in my backyard a while back and actually I had a blast doing it. It's just so dared civilized to have a little box mounted on the wall to turn the thing on and off with.

Also I just noticed you dinged 80 on your ranger...I'm just so used to seeing something like 29 or 19 there that I probably didn't even look for like a year.

This house repair stuff is work! Finished the floor repair in the laundry room though, so its ready for the washer and dryer. they get here, with the fridge on wednesday. I almost got the garage epoxy sealed, but then I realized I can't do that until after aforementioned fridge delivery because they can't walk on it then. It's ready to go though Replaced the faucet in the kitchen with a new pull out with a sprayer type one, added an instant hot water dispenser and a soap despenser to the sink, rebuilt the 4 broken drawers ( these people were rough on house before I got it) and had the carpet cleaned. Got window coverings up in every window except the back sliding glass door, which I haven't located anything suitable for yet. also fixed all the broken outlet covers and missing trim. How do you even break one of those, let alone more than one???

Carpet is still drying, but I get to start moving things in tomorrow. Wireing the house for network and all the outside crap is on hold pending it not being 100 frigging degrees.

I did meet another neighbor. I apperently have a cute little frog that lives on my back porch door at the moment. Camera isnt there yet, but if it is still around when it is, i'll take a picture.

Well.. me and my friend broke his light switch cover when we tried to turn it off with an airsoft gun because we didn't want to get up. I don't think they'd have that problem with an outlet cover though.

got most of my smaller stuff moved. starting on the furnature tomorrow. Also knocked half the weeds in the yard down. weedwackers kick ***. I just hope I can resist the temptation to turn this one into an airplane engine...

then i get to go to yakama all next week for other work, so i wont get to finish moving until next weekend. still haven't slept in the new place, and it has better air conditioning. i'm trying to only rent a truck once though.

I have far, far to many books.

Don't try to pack them all in a refrigerator box.

Seriously. Mr. Ambrya was helping a friend of his move once and went to pick up a box that at one time contained a refrigerator with the hand-truck he had borrowed from work, only to discover his (dumb as rocks, obviously) friend had decided that packing ALL his books in a single box would help him unpack them easier. Next thing you know, Mr. Ambrya is trying to collect from his friend enough money to reimburse his employer for one bent and useless hand truck.

they were in tiny u-haul book boxes, about 40 books per box, 40 boxes give or take.

got the fish tank moved, along with the majority of my stuff. the rest will be finished by next weekend when I rent the truck for the bigger stuff (bed, couch, computer desks, etc) i think alll the fish lived

anyone know anything about landscapeing and gradeing yards and retaining walls? i will likely need some advice if anyone has gone through that.

So, the computers are back up, with network and everything. Most of the stuff is unpacked with the exception of the books, which are pending purchase of 5 more book shelves, and some of my knick knacks and collections from travels that are awaiting a good home. Pictures are forthcoming, I just need to tidy up a bit and break down a bunch of cardboard boxes which are currently comprising a truuly legendary box fort in the garage.

Apperently, I have praying mantises (mantesii?) in my yard. if you picture a large overgrown wheat field on steroids, that is what my yard used to look like. I weed whacked most of it down, but in the process i felt somethign very large land on my leg. I look down, and there is an absolutly huge green preying mantis sititng there staring back at me. After realizing brushing it off with the still running weed whacker would likely be counter productive to my continued ability for walking, it hopped off and ran away. the little bastards move quickly too. Apperently, they also come in pink. Will attempt to get pictures if I didn't scare them all away.

The oft delayed garage floor epoxy coating project starts tomorrow. we'll see how that goes...

Would you have made the same realization if it had been a huge spider instead of a Bruce Lee wannabe?

The real question is, would I really still want that leg if there was a spider on it?

Realizing you are all probably quite bored with this little house journal thingy, I've decided to continue it anyways.

The garage epoxy project went great. the floor is now literally clean enough I could eat off it, and looks 100% better than the random unidentified stains that I really hope were brown paint all over the floor. The first coat took a bit of getting used to with the paint flakes on top, and i did have a bit of an "oops" in distribution right at the end, but nothing that really detracts from it. Workbench is on order, as soon as that is here I can start installing the slats for the shelving system and the other storage bins.

Looking for a garage freezer next. I have a large portion of frozen salmon, yak, cow, and ostriche meat I need to protect. currently most of it is hideing in my parents freezer, and they have hinted that it will get much smaller if I do not find a better home for it in the near future.

Tax credit isn't here yet, so the major landscaping project is not yet underway. Retaining walls will need to be raised about 8 inches on 2 sides of the lawn, and 4 inches in the front where some ******* stole half the bricks at some point before I purchased the house. Once that is raised and filled, the irrigation system and the fence go in, then maybe some new sod if the ground isn't frozen by then.

Inside, most everything is put away. I have another 4 bookshelves yet to assemble, and a few more pieces of furnature to aquire at some point (minor things, short shelves, a few small tables, etc.)

The next major interior project will be the network cable and audio runs. Yes, I have wireless N. No, it isn't fast enough for me. Besides, I also want to run cables for the various other items the house will eventually contain. I've got the spool of Cat 6 cable on the way. that will be used for the network and audio system runs . The audio system will end up being something similar to this: http://www.smarthome.com/81262/DIGI-5-1-Source-4-Zone-Cat-5-Whole-Home-Digital-Audio-Distribution-Kit/p.aspx

I'll also be running audio wires for the main home theater speakers, some coax for a future security system if I decide to install it, a ceiling mounted projector cable for the future, not poked through, and a few other miscelaneous odds and ends. I'll also be wireing the garage for the eventual installation of the milling machine.

I'll be installing 3 2" conduits up the same access trunk as the air conditioner to the 2nd floor (just in the shaft, not in the air duct itself) to allow for the network and audio cables, the fiber connection between the first and second floor switches, and eventually water and electrical conduits for a future solar electric and hot water project.

I found the camera and the batteries finally, so this weekend I shall upload some pictures.

Not much to report this weekend. Ben concentrating on cleaning out the old appartment so i can get rid of it and never set foot in it again. Thats all pretty much done now, and good riddance. i'll probably get rid of the keys around thursday. There is an area of concern regarding a section of pretty much destroyed carpet (long story, involving the fish tank old stand and glue leaching) so we'll see if I get any damage deposit back.

Got all the new shelves assembled and books are on teh shelves again. still need to re catelogue all of them, but thats a project for another day.I have 7 boxes of stuff yet to sort, much of that is old computer parts from the parts drawer. Everything else pretty much has a home. Some of those boxes are pending a workbench and storage cabnetry in the garage, which is still pending the whole tax credit thing.

Picture taking has occured, and I'll post those here at some point

Starting to look at speakers for the walls. the two side units will be in wall speakers. THe two rear units will be either in ceiling units, or surface mount ceiling units. I'm really not sure how much clearance i'll have for in ceiling ones, so i may just run the wires and then figure available depth later.

Speaking of that Tax Credit...

First-Time Homebuyer Credit Q/A.

Quote:

Q. Who cannot take the credit?

A. If any of the following describe you, you cannot take the credit, even if you buy a new home:
- You buy your home from a close relative. This includes your spouse, parent, grandparent, child or grandchild.

That makes me sad Smiley: frown

Damn. Lucky Mr. Ambrya bought this house before that program went into effect. It used to be a rental owned by his dad. Though the credit really wouldn't have been any better of a deal than what he got. When he bought the house, it was appraised at some 50K more than his dad charged him for it.
