I can't drink Pabst Blue Ribbon and not think of Blue Velvet.

My friend went to college in Easton, PA and Yueng was the drink of choice on campus.

I prefer Sam Adams - drinking one right now, as a matter of fact.

Ditto here, but this is just getting ridiculous.
Quote:
But one Massachusetts congressman thinks another beer entirely should be served: Boston's own Sam Adams.

In a letter to Obama dated Wednesday, Massachusetts Rep. Richard Neal strongly urges the president not to drink Budweiser, now owned by a Belgian company. Nor should the White House consider serving Miller or Coors, Neal writes, both owned by a United Kingdom conglomerate.

Instead, the White House should serve the three men — all with ties to Massachusetts — the local favorite, not only because of its popularity in the region but also because it remains the largest American-owned and brewed beer, Neal says.

Don't our congressmen have anything better to do? Let the men drink whatever beers they prefer, for crying out loud.

Probably you are right. I should check. I know they both were at Harvard Law, right?

Michelle was class of '88 and Barack was '91, so it sounds like he started there right after she graduated.

Whut?

What else was there to drink? In the 1600s, beer (usually 'small' or wek beer) was the only drink available to working classes in the absence of water purification. Average allowance for a labourer was between a quart and a gallon per day.

There's a widely held view that after Speedwell sprang a leak, Mayflower had to support more people than had been rationed for, and they landed at Plymouth only because they ran out of ale.

Anywho, Obama should buck the trend and share a jug o' moonshine.

I beg to differ Catwho, something they don't teach in school. Benjamin Franklin was a notorious lush who can be quoted as saying "Beer is a sign that god loves us and wants us to be happy." In fact when the continental congress conveined for the evening there was actually a designated babysitter for Mr. Franklin so he would not give away any state secrets while under the effects of his nightly drink.

In fact all of the Founding fathers drank liberally and in reality it's one of the few things they all had in common. Afterall next to tea, and water there was little else to drink besides beer, and it was the beverage of choice for most of america well into the 19th century.

I have always, always heard the quote attributed to wine, not beer. "Wine is proof God loves us, and wants us to be happy." I even quoted it several posts up as such.

And there was an anecdote from when Ben Franklin was working in construction as a very young man, and the German workers would always drink beer at lunch because they believed that it made them strong. Franklin, knowing exactly what goes into beer, commented that eating the bread was probably more effective at making you strong, since you're getting more of the grains in bread than in liquid beer, and its cheaper to boot.

I think the Germans had ulterior motives other than nutrition.

So they're going with Red Stripe, Blue Moon & Bud Lite.

Even though my beer choice wasn't picked, there's always a chance that they'll drink it while standing around in the White House garage. Or maybe in the White House alley.

Blue Moon is pretty tasty (thought I feel kind of silly when they serve it with an orange slice on the side), but if I have more than two I feel much too full. It's a very filling beer; not sure what the proper term for that would be.

So they went with Jamaican, Canadian and Belgian? I applaud Obama's desire to reach out to the international community. Bush would have just stuck with Lone Star.

Actually, Bush probably would have had Gates hanged and given Crowley a medal and avoided this whole situation, then blown a few lines instead.

Edit: My bad. Thanks Locke
