I'm holding out for the Aion, and maybe the new Star Wars MMO.
I'm skipping over Aion and plan to stick with Warhammer until The Old Republic comes out.

This is a long but pretty thorough overview of Aion. I'm feeling the peer pressure - lots of the people I play War with are playing in the beta, are excited for the game, and WILL be leaving War when Aion is released.

I'm in the closed beta for the game, and I must say...

I am pretty impressed.

It's very pretty, with the graphics finding a comfortable middle between the realism of FFXI and the cartoony look of WoW. The leveling isn't too hard, and it seems to be more or less strictly soloing. Flying is a bit of a disappointment...minute and a half at most, till higher levels.

It's gonna be my alt MMO though when it comes out.

Aion does look very cool. Amazingly it's also being released in Europe around the same time as in the US!

If they're not yet, they were going to "free" within the month or so.

"Free" really meaning to a microtransaction based system. Longsword +3 anyone? Only $3!

I did some reading on it yesterday, they still declare that the best items come from quests, how true that rings with the capitalist side of the game, remains to be seen.

I suppose if you can live with 'basic' rewards and not credit card some full plate, then it should be as frugal as they declare.

Aint that the sad truth ^_^

The game has become a bit more forgiving now but seeing as its like 6-7 years old I would probably wanna try something new or WoW that will put you on the express 10 items or less lane to 60 atleast.

Either way...FFXIV will be out hopefully in the next 1-2 years and nothing else will matter.

in the meantime

i know its not really dwarfs and stuff, but Star wars Galaxies is a good game. it is so big. maybe you can like little monkies that are easy to crack in half, or giant monkeys that crack you in half. Its very expansive. i personally think its bigger then runescape (another good one, despite the suckish graphics) i really suggest it though. and unlike other SOE games, only buy the game, dont buy that Station cash stuff. Im glad there isnt any of that stuff. credits is alot easier to handle. anyhow, free realms and runescape is elves and crap, free realms is dorky and they made it suck after only 2 months. you cant say numbers.

Ex.
I say in any other game "at 3 a clock i need you to **** a doodle doo to wake me up and at 6, whisper me your location so i can go to you

I say in free realms "at # a clock i need you to #### a doodle do to me up and at #, ####### ## your location so i can go to you

Not to mention the 0 threat headshots, though you do need a shotgun equipped and your quail pet out.

Lets be honest here right off the bat: No one quits FFXI, they simply take extended breaks. Welcome back to the fold when you do return. Game can still be time consuming but so long as you set personal playing time boundaries and with all the additions over the last few years, it can be relatively painless to level, craft, and even do certain end-game events (Einherjar, Assault, Nyzul, Salvage, etc). Really, the most time consuming part of the game is making money in my opinion.

A coworker is in the Beta for Champions. He says it's a lot of fun so far, looks like an updated CoH but the missions are (allegedly) much better.

Open Beta starts in August. I may try it out.

I have an abundance of free time, I'm also stick in an infinite loop re- replaying one of my old favourite RTS's. I think it's time to move on.

Some priorities:

I like traditional fantasy settings (elves, dwarfs, magic, etc)

I did play FFXI and would like something less time consuming

I'd also like the opportunity to be on an even footing with others plays (like joining a new server or new game) because part of the fun for me is being just a little cooler than everyone else

My laptop was bought specifically to play Spore, so I guess is still pretty good graphics wise

I don't want to wait for the new FF

Help me out Asylum, I know you know best :p

Have you given wow a try? It's had much more time to develop than a lot of MMOs out there, and it's easy to level and do things. You can commit a small amount of time to it and get pretty far in a short amount of time.

I got tired of WoW and moved on to SWG and EVE online. EVE is a decent game, but takes forever to skill up. So while I wait for my training to complete on EVE I play SWG and enjoy what the game has to offer. When my skill training is complete then I play EVE for a few days and move on to my next skill. If anyone plays SWG I am on eclipse server and my two characters are Askiski (Jedi) and Slitho (Structure Trader).

Sounds a uhh... riveting class!

I've been thinking of changing to WoW for some time, but I feel too committed to leading my LS on FFXI Smiley: glare

I hate being too attached to FFXI some times Smiley: lol

It's alright. I wouldn't want to be a burden. Smiley: smile

I'll most likely end up torrenting it when I get my HD fixed. It's slowly dieing. Strange thing is that Windows keeps telling me that my external drive is low on disk space, even though it has 17GB free. Smiley: dubious

eh I doesn't sound all that interesting, but they are the one who build all the installations, houses, terminals, ships, and stations in the game. I am leaning my character towards shipwright specializations, but also I want him to use the elite extraction installations as well.

I'm up to 4 80's in WoW, still rocking the Shadow Council server. I just like collecting gold really.

I tried EVE, AoC, WAR, Lotro, EQ2, Guildwars, City of Heroes....just meh. I couldn't get into any of it. I even reinstalled FFXI. It's still one of the most frustratingly cumbersome mmo's out there.

Looking forward to Champions and the new Star Wars. Until then, I'll be leveling my paladin. And a warlock. And possibly my priest. The shaman will have to wait until my hunter hits 80. That should kill a bit of time.

I'm out.
