I have an abundance of free time, I'm also stick in an infinite loop re- replaying one of my old favourite RTS's. I think it's time to move on.

Some priorities:

I like traditional fantasy settings (elves, dwarfs, magic, etc)

I did play FFXI and would like something less time consuming

I'd also like the opportunity to be on an even footing with others plays (like joining a new server or new game) because part of the fun for me is being just a little cooler than everyone else

My laptop was bought specifically to play Spore, so I guess is still pretty good graphics wise

I don't want to wait for the new FF

Help me out Asylum, I know you know best :p

Why not join the beta test for Aion?

LotRO.

unless you are a PvP fan.

You wont be at the front of content though.

I remember LotRO getting bad reviews and general "meh" responses when it first came out. How is it now content wise? What kind of play style is it?

I'm currently playing Warhammer Online. It has dwarfs. It's all about PvP. It's been out a year or so, thought there are still very few people that have reached the PvP cap. You can level a character to 40 (the current max level) and be PvPing with the big kids in no time. The graphics are 'meh' and the PvE is ok. Crafting is simple. But for PvP it's the best game out atm.

Lotro is good game, and really, while the PvP is only a side game - it's pretty fun.

Edit to add that lots of people are really enjoying Aion beta - but the beta is only open on occasional weekends - the full game is released here in the US in Sept. It's already been released in Korea and it's possible to play that version with some language mods installed. The characters, once they reach level 10, can sprout wings and fly - in special areas.

you must play in the wee hours of the morning, Nobby. Havent seen you on.

Ive only seriously played WoW before LotRO, but I have to say the content while leveling is quite enjoyable. Im addicted.

I kinda stopped playing wow. Guild needed a balance druid so I leveled mine pretty fast, but then kind of lost interest. Only reason I log on now is chatting with guildies a bit. Might play more after summer though, just too much bbq and booze going on now Smiley: nod

I actually started WoW with a friend ( I referred him) and I gotta say, the triple experience and gift levels and free zebra are about the most insane thing I have ever heard of in my life. We already have a small army sitting at 30 looking to make the push to 60+with our favorites and gift level the stragglers. My favorite jobs (I've tried them all up to 30) so far are in order : Hunter, Mage, and a tie from Warlock/Priest in third. The first to 60 Will be either a hunter/hunter duo or a hunter/mage duo.

Depending on how long ago you played FFXI, you might want to give a shot with the 14 day trial again. They've reinvented the game from the bottom up in the last year with Level Sync (can party with anyone 10+ for exp) and Fields of Valor (can solo for nice chunks of exp as a reward.)

LotRO is still the PVE game of choice...

But I recently reactivated AoC, wich is heaps better than when it first came out a year ago.

I started from scratch on a PvP server and have had an ace time. The game is stable now, and I don't remember it crashing at all. Frame rates are excellent with a half decent comp. and even DX10 is working.

Theres plenty of people to kill play nicely with, and tho I havnt bothered joining a guild yet (I'm more the solo hunter atm) finding groups for the dungeons hasn't been a problem even tho I play off peak times. In fact, the couple of peak times I've logged on, its been very busy.

Sorry to say that <Global> chat is still full of asshats, but what game isnt? and at least with AoC you can go and kill them. I've made a hobby of hunting down ******** and I spent a very happy couple of hours hunting, finding and killing (3 times) a prat who couldn't keep his racism hidden a couple of evenings ago. Good times!

As with most games, do NOT take what you read in the forums as an indicator of the game. The official forum posters are without doubt the biggest bunch of whiners i've ever had the misfortune to encounter.

Oh yeah, theres no dwarves. Or elves. But there is plenty of magic.

And blood. Loads of blood.....

(they did have a free trial going on, but that may have finished now...)

I'm still playing EQ2. It's got all the fantasy you're seeking, with dwarves, trolls, ogres, elves, etc. You can also put any race with any class so you are free to make whatever you choose. Lots of choices in how your character looks too. It's not nearly as hard core or a time sink as EQ1 or FFXI is, but not super yawn worthy easy either. It's got a nice blend of solo and group stuff, tons of quests, the ability to solo up to 80 if you desire with some thought process. Tons of end game content. I've been 80 for a long time and still have things to accomplish. End game raiding is a lot of fun. Some fights are just spanking, but most require figuring out the puzzle and people having their game face on. Raids are only 24 people total so you do not need a ton of people. There are also raids for 12 people. While you still have a few select classes that are needed more than others, all classes are extremely useful and sometimes vital for raid encounters.

Me too.

But I think I'm desperate. Paulsol's post made me want to re-subscribe to AoC, and Elinda to War. But the kicker was Exodus, man, I soooo wanna play Republicans Online Adventures. I'd pick the Cheney class. It's a mixture of Warlock and Rogue, but it's so innovative that no game has ever had a class as powerful as that.

I'm holding out for the Aion, and maybe the new Star Wars MMO.

I'm skipping over Aion and plan to stick with Warhammer until The Old Republic comes out.

This is a long but pretty thorough overview of Aion. I'm feeling the peer pressure - lots of the people I play War with are playing in the beta, are excited for the game, and WILL be leaving War when Aion is released.

I'm playing FFXI again while still occasionally getting my RTS fix from Warhammer DoW 40K II (until Starcraft 2 comes out) & awaiting the last DLC for Fallout 3.

Oh, & madden's out soon too.
