Tare reminds me of one time I was at an ice rink and about a dozen or two teens started skating circles around me, they all had hockey sticks and tukes. they kept saying 'eh' and talking about 'taking back the ice'. Some of them had black eyes, bumps on their noses and were missing teeth. I was frightened for my life and wishing I had a flame-thrower to melt the ice right out from underneath them.

That kinda stuff just shouldn't happen here in America.

And you just know that after that, people would want revenge, and so the gangs would start carrying guns. If it was gang related, the guy and likely his family would be killed.

you eventual outcome is death for a whole bunch of people, and probably more deadly violence in the future. How is this in any way good? This situation absolutely needs to be dealt with, but gunning down people isn't a solution.

The police are not classifying it as anything yet due to the fact that they don't have very much information. This is a good thing, it doesn't help when people just jump to a conclusion even if it appears to be justified.

I'm still of the mind that a shotgun is better. It's just as intimidating as a semi-automatic, it'll cause a gang of attackers to scatter and scare em off good, and it will hurt a lot more of them a lot more quickly to get a faceful of birdshot with a much lower likelihood of killing anyone.

No dude, if a gang of black dudes were posing a reasonable threat to my hypothetical children, I'm sure I'd at least try to resort to violence to protect them, even going so far as to shoot. What I would object to isn't keeping a weapon for home defense; it is keeping an automatic weapon that will solve the situation using much more force than required. Why an auto? Why not a nice shotgun? This thread could have been "this is why you don't push for a total ban on guns/defensive weapons/semi-autos or even concealed handguns (simply due to the ease of carrying and using a small weapon)" and I'd be totally with you, but you're talking specifically about automatic weapons.

It's like that story linked here a while back where the shop owner shot some robber kid and then pumped five more rounds into his stomach while the guy was on the floor, barely conscious; the response is just totally

While I don't agree on assault weapons, firearms should never be banned. Also, a shotgun would've been more than enough to even discourage this action. Mobs of people are typically cowardly, and prey on the weak. Armed victims, pose so much more threat.

Also, I know this is in the investigation stage, but if the facts of the story are proven, then anyone caught should be charged with a hate crime.

I disagree with Red, 5 days in the ICU aren't "minor" injuries.
