So now he's decided he won't be releasing his financial records to prove no public money was spent on traveling to boff his mistress.

It just makes me laugh. This is one of the "fiscal conservatives" so protective of taxpayers' money. This is one of the "social conservatives" who called for Clinton to resign over a ********.

Guess it's all different when it's you desperately needing to be with your soul mate for a quickie.

Apparently she's a bit of a floozy - she also had another boytoy at the same time, according to rumors. Apparently he released the emails to The State (who then sat on them for six months while they waited for more evidence that they weren't fakes.)

I always thought that was Brazil.

Yesterday the news was airing a story on this case; as I walked past the living room I heard them say that he's trying to save his wife and his job as Governor. I walked into the office muttering "douchebag, don't deserve to keep your job" and freaked out my mom. "What did you say??'

As opposed to just hiring an intern?

or how about;

Hundreds of lawmakers traveled overseas in 2008 at a cost of about $13 million. That's a 50% jump since Democrats took control of Congress two years ago.

Now you want to talk about who's spending what in Washington?

Change you can believe in; especially when the country is at a 26 year high in unemployment.

Yup. We voted for the guy partly because we hoped he would try actual diplomacy instead of the "cowboy version" we had the last 8 years.

Thank goodness those guys aren't refusing money for schools on the basis of "conservative principles" while racking up taxpayer bills for fucking their mistress, huh?

You'll also note that half the examples in that article were Republican lawmakers. So, while I understand that you're upset that your fiscal responsibility standard-bearer was caught with his pants down and some South American broad on his shaft, you're not making a very good point.

I understand that this is all you've got though so I'm not upset. Just a little sad for you that... well, this is all you've got.

Well, most of the SC GOP is calling for Sanford to resign. Sadly, you can't pin this on some sort of Democratic hypocrisy.

I mean Clinton and Edwards did it
Not to spoil your argument but Edwards wasn't in office during his affair, having left the Senate for his failed VP run back in 2004.

But you go right on drinking the kool-aid.
Heh... what "Kool-ade"? The "Sanford lied to South Carolina, spent taxpayer money on trips to see his mistress (and other women he's met abroad besides his wife) and made a mockery of his leadership" Kool-ade?

That "Kool-ade"?

Yeah... it's brainwashing! Smiley: laugh

My favorite part was where Sanford boldly told the press that he'd make available his travel vouchers for them to clearly see that he had not spent public money on his trip(s) to see his mistress, and then after reviewing said documents changed his mind. Smiley: laugh

I'm *sure* it had to do with national security. Absolutely positive.

I'll also note that when your best defense for someone's actions is "That guy did it!", you really have no defense at all.

Do you think Sanford's actions were defensible, Varus? Don't worry about any other politicans; do you think Sanford deserves to stay in office and would you trust him with higher elected office?

Unlike Democrats I believe a leaders morals are important so I don't think Sanford should stay in office.

Now that i've answered your question; Do you think Clinton should have resigned?

I think politicians should have morals too, and honesty is top of the list of moral characteristics that I wish they would possess. But, with any type of employment, what one does in his personal life is kind of their own thing.

Clinton didn't jeopardize the country with his affair. He didn't leave the country without a leader. He lied to protect his marriage I would assume, and not because of some shady political dealings. Sanford, of course, let his indiscretions jeopardize the operations of his state. This is what I see as the big difference between the two.

Not really but I don't think Sanford should resign purely on account of his affair(s), either. I do think he should resign on account of his incredibly inept management of his office including leaving without warning or plans in the event of an emergency, lying to his staff and staying out of communication for nearly a week. All for a dalliance.

But the dalliance isn't the important part. He could have done so because he wanted to see the circus and I'd still feel he's unfit to hold office.

Meh. Sorry, it didn't impress me. Maybe if the Lewenski thing had anything to do with anything but it didn't. It was the sole discovery of a failed investigation into Whitewater. It should have never even been a question asked under oath and it was a more shameful moment in politics that it was ask that it was than the response.

While I agree that the whole Lewinsky thing was sleazy on all sides, I do not believe that his getting a ******** put the country at risk. The subsequent distraction, including the ridiculous and politically motivated impeachment, might have.
