In the final analysis, everything is about sex.

I mean, once he started having an affair with a women in another country, the rest was pretty much inevitable. I mean, what was he supposed to do, tell everyone he was going to go see his mistress? Oh sure, he could have said, "I'm going to Argentina to relax on the beach. Tell the Lt Governor he's in charge." And his wife (who probably has no interest in hiking the Appalachian Trail) would have said, "Cool, I'm coming too." Like that would have worked out better.

Hahaha, I've been following this thread since yesterday, and I was thinking "Wow, what a f*ck-up. The guy ditches his post, disappears, his office gives out incorrect information, and it turns out he skipped out of the country? At least he didn't have an affair; that would just finish it all up wonderfully!"

OH WAIT!

Classic. Absolutely classic.

The Dems don't have to destroy the GOP. The GOP is doing a smashup job of destroying itself.

Father of the year is the man who ditches his family without warning over Father's Day weekend to fly to Latin America and fuck some other broad.

Meh, the Pub's will just scream "Edwards!" with that argument. Although, at least he wasn't seemingly "lost" when doing it, so to speak.

I don't know anyone who considers Edwards a viable political candidate these days.

Asked if he and his wife had separated, Sanford responded, “I don’t know how you want to define that. She’s there, I’m here.”

“What I did was wrong, period,” he said. “I spent the last five days crying in Argentina.”
The real question is: Has Argentina been crying for him?

Honestly I'm surprised it was a woman.

Well. Assuming it was; we only have his word for that so far.

What, not who.

Unless we can add this clause to the holiday!

Before certain posters enter this thread, the benefit of being a sane person is that you can make fun of both this guy and Blago and not feel the need to desperately defend one out of party loyalty.

True. And I'd like to clarify: while it amuses the hell out of me, I don't care about the adultery part of it. I'm more concerned that a governor would leave the country (or be incommunicado at all) with no one authorized to fill in for him.

The rest is just gossip and gravy.

This story is freaking amazing, I saw it on the Daily Show and was like "a governor disappears without telling anyone, wtf mate?". But now its a governor irresponsibly leaves the country, without telling anyone, to cheat on his wife? WTF?

With this guy being a major player in the republican party, wow they are in bad shape.

Yeah. Selling a senate seat is obviously a worse offense than an affair, which rates like a zero on my importance scale. What they have in common is being outrageous weirdos and poor liars.

Well, if three things in life are certain, it's death, taxes and that Fox News will "accidentally" refer to a scandal-plagued Republican as a Democrat when carrying the coverage.

Seriously, does this shit happen on any other network? Can someone find me coverage of MSNBC or CNN calling Edwards, Spitzer or McGreevy a Republican?
