Spelling criticsFollow

#1 Jun 17 2009 at 4:47 AM Rating: Sub-Default
I will make sure that I do not correct the spelling and punctuation and grammar in this post and just get it all out in the open.

I cannot stand self appointed spelling and grammar police.

If you have nothing better to say in response to someones post other than to criticise their spelling and grammar why dont you just f*ck off and pick peanuts out of your own Poo?

It is really quiet sad knowing that some people will read through a post and deliberately pick on the spelling or grammar just to feel big and important and like they are somehow better than the OP or respondant to a post.

Are you lives so boring and unfulfilling that you have to take yourselves down to that particular pathetic level that I am having to sink down to just to let you know that you're useless at life but that does not give you the right to pick on others for the way they type things.

Did it occur to you that some people are just not any good with spelling and grammar? does it occur to you that maybe they are in a hurry but felt the need to give a response whilst the thought was in their mind? Does it ever occur to you losers that maybe they have faulty keys on their keyboard, (outside chance, but I used to have a keyboard that had the ' and , broken).

So with all those possibilities I have just listed, and there are more, perhaps you should go stick you're heads in a bucket full of your own p*ss and stop irritating people jsut to make yourselfs feel oh os important and better than others.

You pathetic little vermin. Were you all picked on at school? Or are you bullys that have run out of people to bully and can only point out failings of others behind the security of the internet?

On the whole you are a collection of mind numbingly sad pathetic little pr*cks.

Now f*ck off and do something usefull with your time. All those posting corrections to my post are exactly the kind of people I am talking about. You have been labelled and found wanting. Sad little lonely people.

Yeah, doesn't change the fact you're still an oversensitive, undereducated, and sensationalist moran from what I've seen of your posts here.

People who always correct people's spelling need to stop wasting our time. Truly it takes valuable reading time away from us, where clearly our time on these forums should be better spent doing what we normally do, which clearly is find the cure for cancer and/or AIDS.

Yup, you write posts that make no sense and topics people disagree with because you don't seem to know enough about the topics.

You made a post. In the Asylum. About spelling. Yeah. Oversensitive.

It's the best description for your quality of posts so far. Don't get me wrong, Varrus does it better, but you might be up to his level at some point.

I don't really care Morganne, honestly. It's the Asylum. The entire point is to not let it get to you. And I didn't write "moron." Edit: I think my point is coming across to you poorly. I don't care if you don't write well, or write random nonsense about things you don't seem to understand. Feel free to do so! That's the point of the Asylum. What's pointless is to complain when someone heckles you for it here. Out of the three criticisms offered, only the oversensitive part will hold you back here. If Asylumites can sink their claws into something, they will; and sensitivity is what many go for.

Most intelligent people would realize that, when communicating via a written medium, spending the little extra time cleaning up their text is a good thing. If you think your ideas have value, present them as such.

I'm not speaking of minor errors. Everyone has those. I'm speaking of the "i dont ned to type good 4u cuz its teh internets who cares luser??" types of posts.

Hint: Most of who you consider "intelligent people" are just slightly more intelligent than you, enough to make you think they're a lot smarter than they actually are. And considering you appear to be below the median IQ, you're leaving quite a large group of people who you consider intelligent.

Joph's Law.

I'll often offer corrections to spelling, grammar and word usage because you may not know it was incorrect, and education is a good thing.

If I know it bothers you, though, I'll do it just for that.

You don't seem to get it Morganne.

The people who correct your spelling and grammar don't do it because they have nothing better to say. They do it to highlight the essential absurdity of someone in trying to pass him/herself off as a credible authority on <whatever> when s/he is, in fact, so very ignorant that the basic rudiments of spelling, punctuation, and grammar escape him/her.

If you are going to present your opinions as being intelligent and credible, the first thing you have to do is present YOURSELF as intelligent and credible. Because no one is going to find any credence in an opinion written by an ignoramus. The occasional typo, yeah, that usually slips past and is accepted as being accidental. But a consistent pattern of incorrect (not merely mistyped, but actually incorrectly used) grammar just makes you look like a moron, and destroys any credibility with which you attempt to present your opinions.

Furthermore, it's just fucking rude to inflict that crap upon our eyeballs. I mean, seriously. Why should I bother to take time out of MY day to attempt to read and decipher your lazily composed rubbish when YOU can't be bothered to take the time out of YOUR day to present your opinions with any sort of conscientious attention to detail? If you care so little about your own opinions that you don't trouble yourself with due diligence, how am I supposed to care? By posting that crap, you waste our time, and you flaunt your disrespect for the reader.

So...if you want anyone to take you seriously, lern2spell.

Well Locke your wrong, undereducated I am not, over sensitive?
well maybe if people were not such d*cks, spending most of their time pointing out everyone elses failings then people like me would not feel the need to defend themselves.

Many, many intelligent people cannot write or spell to save their lives.

Sensationalist? okay, if we were talking about bombing a tube full of people then perhaps I would be, but I hardly call this post sensational, would you? or did I strike a nerve?!?!?!?!?!?!

Moron? most likely, but then we all have a little moron in us, even you Locke. WOW!!!! did I just blow your, "I am perfect" bubble"?

Professionals charge 10 cents or more per standardised line for spell checking. Forum users do not get paid anything for reading your posts.

Any spelling or grammatical errors I make can be explained by the fact that I'm not a native speaker. Smiley: grin

I don't think most people do it to take you down a level (besides you usually do that on your own). No, I think most people do it because they start to read a post and bad spelling/grammar sticks out like a sore thumb. It prevents them from actually paying attention to the actual message. It's not their fault, it's yours. It'd be like singing off-key in front of a group of record executives (yeah one or two might be stupid enough to sign you anyways), and then crying when they tell you that you suck at singing, "But the lyrics and rhythm was great!" you say. You still suck.

The whole point of writing is to communicate your ideas and opinions. If you can't communicate properly then your ideas and opinions get confused or miss their points. There's nothing wrong with correcting spelling/grammar. I know I'm a better poster because of it, not just corrections of my posts but from others. It might be a pet peeve of yours but in all fairness incorrect spelling/grammar could be someone else's pet peeve.

Rant all you want and claim your fighting 'the machine', but realize that your fighting on the side that's trying to lower the standard. The average person is turning into a spastic diarrhea text fest. It's getting pathetic.

And besides spelling and grammar aside I'm still better than you.

That explains a lot. I had riteoftongue installed from a long time ago and firefox has been telling me for a while that it wasn't compatible with the new versions of the browser, but I still get the corrective red line when I misspell something. I had no idea why my defunct riteoftongue was still apparently working, but I was afraid to remove it just in case Smiley: lol

This. Encountering a typo in a sentence is like encountering a critical stop in a computer program for me. Everything is humming along, making sense, comprehension-is-a-go, then BAM! unintentional grammar mistake or humorous typo derails the entire train of thought. It's difficult to resume the program after that, and sometimes I give up because the PC of my brain demands a reboot. (Behold my beautiful mixed metaphors!)
