Plus now I can pick my own dentist instead of one of the SIX offered in the plan, and don't need to wait as long.
Your plan tells you who you can see? Really? Wow, that's insane.
Oh, and my plan is $5.76 a week and covers 100% of my prescriptions (including dispensing fee) and $1500/person/year dental. Along with things like orthopedics, massage, chiropractor etc.
Edited, Jun 16th 2009 2:37pm by Yodabunny Dental plans here only extend to the dentists who accept them. In FL, there are 6 (only 2 within an hour drive) who accept the plan we were offered. If you go to any other dentist they will not accept your insurance and you pay out of pocket.
I forget how much the plan was weekly, but I believe it was around $280 a year. Which, when I looked up prices, would cover 2 checkups and cleanings a year, along with a set of fillings. Also, the plan offered only covered silver fillings, which are outdated and not used much any more. You would need to pay for any other fillings. It was a terrible plan; at least I was told that right from the start, so I made sure not to opt into it.
The medical plan was pretty similar to the Blue Cross BLue Shield plan I was already on (in price), but a bit more limited in coverage (again, only certain hospitals would accept it), so I just stuck with BCBS. Luckily, as a young man with no previous conditions and in good health my payments are quite low for now, but I know they increase exponentially with age, especially since my family has a history of high blood pressure. When I hit 30 (or if BCBS payments keep increasing) I'll reevaluate what I have. For now it hasn't been an issue.
Life insurance and eyecare plans were pretty good here, though!
