LMAO

Quote:
In an escalating diplomatic row over the transfer of the former terrorist suspects, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed the transfer with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband in what was said to be an uneasy conversation. Privately Whitehall officials accused America of treating Britain, with whom it is supposed to have a "special relationship", with barely disguised contempt.

One senior official said: "The Americans were fully aware of the foreign-policy understanding we have with Bermuda and they deliberately chose to ignore it. This is not the kind of behaviour one expects from an ally."

So you guys are sending your "freed" ex-prisoners to other countries? I guess it's better then keeping them locked up, but if they're not going to be charged with something and can't go back to their home countries, then they should just be released in the US really. I suppose people are worried they're angry at the US for being imprisoned.

Frankly, I too am sick of being treated with contempt by you Americans just because of my nationality.

A little here, a little there. Nobody minds a sprinklin' of ex-terrorist suspects, right? Just don't lump them all together.

I've no idea what your nationality is but I'd be happy to treat you with contempt.

And why can't they go back to their home countries?

The potential that after being in american prisons and then freed they would be either killed or forcibly recruited into terrorist groups. It might not always be the case, but I would imagine it's quite likely for some of them.

The ideal situation would be to send them home.

If I recall correctly, the issue with these particular prisoners is that while they've been judged innocent of any plans against the U.S., they're members of a Chinese Muslim separatist group. China wants them back to imprison them for that, the U.S. doesn't want to do that but also doesn't want to take them in and anger China, and nobody else wants them for similar reasons. Except, apparently, Bermuda.
