Regarding nobby and naughtyword's avatars, there are definite lines. the pictures in question are fully clothed, do not involve any gropeing (Edit for clarity: the lifting motion in rimesume's doesn't involve grasping of the nipple, it's borderline, but we've allowed it. that's about as bad as we would let go though) or particularily sexually suggestive gestures, or anything that would make them forbiddon from being put on tv. Yes, you could theoretically put a guy ina thong up however there is a slight difference as that would be a motion which could be interperated as sexually suggestive given the mechanics of copulation. It would probably depend on how explicit it was, how many complaints it generated, etc. I don't particularily want to see that, but if I nuked every avatar i just didn't like without good reason, well there would be a few more deleted than there are.
If you think it might be a bad choice to put up as an avatar, don't put it up.
It's funny because it's a bit hypocritical of some users.
I tried an experiment once. Someone had posted a black and white picture of two girls laying down on a bed in their underwear and embraced in a kiss. I took the photo and cropped it so it only showed the top portion of the photo; including only their heads and nothing else. I then found a photo of two guys lip locked. Both of these images were the same basic concept; two homosexuals embraced in a kiss, no nudity, etc. Then I put them both up as my avatar for a while, first the two guys. The response was quick, I received threats and bigoted comments in my pm box as well as posts in various threads I participated in but had nothing to do with my avatar. I was quickly told be an admin it had to go. This was expected. As soon as it went down I put up the two girls as my avatar. It was the complete opposite; I was never asked to take it down, received no complaints in my pms but did receive praise and comments of satisfaction in threads I posted in, again none of which had anything to do with the avatar. Eventually I took it down as an avatar and called out the obvious hypocrisy of the posters in general.
I'm not gay and I don't like extreme pda. I find guys kissing guys to be gross. Ewwwww. Girls kissing girls I find to be very hot. Mmmmmmm. However I think if one is allowed both should be. The content is basically the same, it's just a matter of taste of whether someone likes it or not, like someone who prefers chocolate over vanilla or vice versa. The hypocrisy was sickening. I just found it interesting how differently the two images were responded to, not really surprised just interesting.
