I find the fact that Obama never got his shoes resoled after winning the Presidency to be a much larger view into his character.

He could take the time out to go get it done. Hell, he could get an aide or an intern to do it. He could have Michelle mail order shoes. He could have a cobbler from Milan fly in and personally make him a brand new pair of $5,000 oiled leather sabegos.

But he has more important things to do than worry about a hole in the bottom of his shoe.

If he was a good person, he would treat his shoes like a member of the family.

Guenny,

You have no idea the effect a nicely polished pair of shoes has on people.

Neither do you, apparently, as the issue here isn't his shoes, but that showing shoes is apparently a sign of disrespect in the Middle East that some conservative Israelis took as such since he was on the phone with the PM of Israel at the time.

Obviously it doesn't matter at all. Who cares? I mean, besides you, because you really have nothing else about which to complain :-P

Editted to take out redundancy.

And thinking about it... if Obama did have a new pair of shoes, I find it extremely likely you would just as easily complain that in this horrible economy, with the world falling apart, that he has time to even CONSIDER fashion as a priority. It would show how off his priorities have been, and how he is failing as a president. All because of his new shoes.

See how ridiculous a criticism of a presidents' shoes are?

No, you probably don't.

They can be offended about that all they want. I'm offended he's scuffing up such a historic piece of furniture. And I promise you if we'd had this same conversation about W i'd be saying the same thing.

But we didn't. Because you weren't offended.

Sure, regular basis.

Smiley: laugh I've never seen anyone get mad because someone put their feet on the desk in their own office. Maybe your crowd is a little too tightly wound.

Nope.

Well, 0-3. Keep trying.

I'm almost there. I figure 6 or 7 more months and I should be living completely off your involuntary tax dollar contributions....and I intend to keep premium! Suck it up.

That's rich, coming from the nuttin'-but-denim-overalls okra farmer. That straw hat of yours is letting in too much sun and it's baking your noodle, son.

I want you to find one middle-to-upper management white-collar pencil-pushing stereotype that hasn't put their feet up on their desk at one time or another. It's a desk. It's used for things. Like Joph said, if it were a significant piece of American history then it would be sealed up and on display in a museum, not in an office where whatever bloke happens to have their name on the door can use as they see fit.

I don't doubt that it's a significant piece o' history, but it's a working piece o' history. Let it do its deskly duties. Hell, each president could have carved his initials into it for all I care (it'd be pretty cool if they had).

There are probably heel marks from all the past presidents shoes on the desk.

Come on Varus, even YOU have to admit you are barking up an imaginary tree of ill will here?
