We've recently had this conversation, but to indulge Nephthys I'll respond.

Twitter as a tool to disseminate information is grand. As another social site - meh.

Here's stupid. Random chat about nothing or anything with a random person (I'm guessing it's mostly cyber-searchers)

I'd never be able to get the hang of twitter. I'm normally a very long-winded person, and if I want to submit anything to the internet that is even loosely blog-like, it will definitely get way longer than what twitter supports.

I'll admit, even before I opened the topic I read the title and thought "Dumber and Dumberer."

Never used Twitter, see no real use in it. No problem with people who do, but I don't see much of a point.

Of course no one here needs Twitter; you already spew enough inane drivel at Allakhazoo to cover your needs.

It's pointless, a time-waster and trivial.

The only difference between Twitter & =4 is its immediacy Smiley: grin

I enjoy 'em both

I blame my earlier use of the word "dribble" in place of "drivel" on the arrival of free Evil Bagels here at Evil, Inc.

Really, Twitter is completely explained in it's name. Similar to Twatter.

I just giggled, thinking of gbaji trying to fit his writhing, tortured logic into 140 characters at a time.

I bet every Twitter would start with "Look."

It's supplanted Livejournal as a place to jot down random thoughts, or contact some of my friends. Facebook is way too cluttered for that sort of thing, and Livejournal is more suitable for long winded rants or multimedia presentations regarding my exploits in life, real and virtual.

If you use Twitter in that capacity, it's great, since you can text to your significant other "pick up dishwashing detergent" even if they forgot their cell phone at work, so long as they have internet access.

I prefer facebook to twitter. The interface is roughly the same, but facebook puts everything in much better context imo. With the whole ability to comment, and the fact that profiles are generally more developed on facebook then twitter.

That being said, twitter can be used as an excellent tool. If you want to make a website that takes sms submissions, hooking it into twitter is probably the easiest way to do that.

I prefer a phone call to all this crap. And that's only to agree on the time to meet in person.

"Sorry, you moved away and no longer can meet in person? I'm sorry, we're no longer friends until you move back."

I'm starting to feel like keeping up with Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Linkedin, and god knows what other sites I'm not doing, is becoming too much like a full time job.

I think when you get to the point where you think... "oh christ I forgot to log into myspace today to see if anyone messaged me" you should just jump off a bridge...

It becomes another job. Not something fun like it starts out as.

Just my thoughts... Also, Ash... where is my drama?

Basically you write about what you're doing and get to pretend that people might care.

Digsby is the answer to most of that. Keeps you logged into everything at once so you can update when you want to. But I find myself Twittering more than anything right now.

Tweet version of following post, Nephty is uncoolSmiley: glare

I have only a total of 318 updates on Twitter made over the last year, when I joined. I can go days without checking Twitter, Facebook, Livejournal or even here if I want and often will do so when I'm too busy working on a project such as my costume. Then suddenly I find myself checking in to see what folks are doing and may tweet random updates as I feel like it.

The one Social Internet site I dislike the most, is the first one I joined due to friends I made on Allakhazam. Myspace. No matter how they try to change, so to be like FB, it the AOHell of social networking sites.

Since, I'm never sure who I'm friends with on Twitter or FB is at a computer, I will use Tweetdeck to post on both, when at the computer. The 140 character limit is a great way to learn how to be concise with one's thoughts. When I can't put my thoughts and ideas into less then 140 characters, I have the Asylum, Livejournal and Blogger accounts, though lately I've taken to sending short updates on my pain levels to Blogger from my phone. I only post my pain rants in one place so to keep from being a bore. Really how many folks wants to read a 10,00 word rant on why I hate being in pain every few months, when you could be checking out my cleavage in my latest FB profile photo.

Still Twitter is the drug of choice for all the cool kidsSmiley: cool, who have been using long before it made the attention of the MSM. I have had several friends, who work behind the cameras on my follow list, long before the reporters caught on.

Plus if you follow any Podcaster, you need twitter to be in the know. Then 90% of the folk I follow are podcasters, that I met or heard about at Balticon. Good precentage are also webcomics and writers, with a few members of Fandom that are also family or local friends.

edit because I'm in pain and my mouse doesn't want to go where I point it.

I've only twittered in the old fashioned sense, being all gossipy and giggly at times.

Just like hipsters ruined irony for the rest of us, the internet ruined twittering. Smiley: mad
