I can't say I really have any words that I particularly dislike, at least when they are used properly. I once had a coworker, however, who had a real hangup about the word "blouse." Couldn't stand it, would scold me whenever I used it.
My only word-related dislikes come into play with mispronunciation, which I encounter frequently thanks to the emphasis the American school system places upon phonics. "Foyer" is a big one, and hearing someone say "foy-yur" (especially realtors, who should know better!) can drive me right up the wall. "Mauve" and "taupe" are other irritants, when pronounced "mawve" and "tawp."
I suppose I could always hit the jackpot and encounter a realtor who tells me "the lovely foy-yur is painted in a nice shade of tawp with mawve trim." Then my head would just pretty much explode and my worries would be over.
fonix iz our frend, rite?
