I'm hoping to build me a no-dig garden this weekend. I know it seems a bit late, but we had frost last Monday, so really it's not.

I have really wanted a veggie garden but didnt' like the idea of tilling, bringing in a pile of loam (the native soils are pretty acidic, very silty and dense), pulling rocks and busting through roots.

I saw this video and thought it looked doable. I've picked up most of my supplies, just need to get the pick-up fired up to go get me a pile of horse poo. Hopefully the rain will let up.

I have so little planned for this weekend, I feel like a slacker. Most likely it will involve a lot of card playing, lounging about, thinking for a bit, loafing, staring nonresolutely into the middle distance, then a bit of intense couch potato-ry. I bought season one of Star Trek: the Next Generation with just this in mind.

I have a baseball game, and I'm hanging out with my mom.
Nothing new, really. My weekends are pretty much replays.

Aside from some of the classic orgignal episodes, early Next Generation is the best of Star Trek imo.

I'll be watching hockey and playing hockey and thinking about hockey.

Oh, and I picked up Infamous for my PS3... I'll probably be playing that when I'm not watching or playing hockey. I'll still be thinking about hockey.

Yoga tonight, then catching up on Season 1 of Flight of the Conchords.

Saturday: Football in the morning, and then a pic-nic in Hyde Park, or maybe Holland Park, with beer, weed, and some nibbles. Maybe watch a bit of the FA Cup Final.

Sunday: Will spend the day praying for Varrus' soul, or trimming my fingernail with a chainsaw, whichever is more practical.

Slightly corny late-80s effects aside, it's actually been a lot better than I remember.

I love watching the pilot and the first few episodes just for Troi's hilarious accent.

Saturday, we'll be having some friends and family over for a small party to honor Tristan's 2nd birthday, which was Wednesday (we went to the zoo on the day itself.) Sunday I'm really hoping to kick back and do absolutely NOTHING, because it's been a busy, busy week.

Yeah there's a lot of awkwardness in the first few episodes. They seem to find their stride fairly quickly though.

Worf looks terrible though.

It took then about a season and a half to really get going and find some good stories and for the actors to really fit well with their characters. First season you had stinkers like the preachy Capital Punishment Utopia Planet and the Talking Oil Slick that Ate Tasha Yar, and early second season you had the whose-bad-smack-trip-is-this? episode called "Where Silence Has Lease," among others. But by the third season they were definitely hitting on all cylinders. "The Best of Both Worlds, Pt. 1" was the Season 3 finale and is still ZOMG!!!amazing to watch nearly 20 years later.

Damn, I feel old now.

A friend of mine and I called the pilot and much of the first season "Jersey Girl in Space". Although her accent was more of a Bronx thing, really. Hard to quantify.

And yeah, Worf's head couldn't decide how big it was supposed to be for a while. Smiley: laugh

I mock because I love. None of this kept me from faithfully watching every episode, you understand.

He makes gravel in his spare time.

Edit: yes, I misspelled a two letter word. Suck it.

Important person is important. I have to figure out what sort of system he's going to implement and go through the entire roster to see where each player fits.

I can't wait!

Down south we swim or fish in them. I've seen people do flips from over 100ft. Of course you get the occasional stupid high school kids that get drunk and decide they can jump from 200ft. Fortunately it doesn't happen that often. This quarry is filled with rainwater and underground springs and rivers. Some of the quarry that what mined just down the road was used for a variety of interesting things.

Jesus Christ I can't wait until Tasha Yarr dies. That woman was the worst. How many references to "rape gangs" can a futuristic space exploration show possibly have?

I just watched that Utopia Planet one last night.

For a show that theoretically featured a feel-good future where there's true equality of the sexes, there sure was a lot of misogyny in the writing. The repeated rape gang references (and honestly, on a planet where law and order has broken down and there's total chaos, can roving gangs think of nothing better to do than rape, like, say, finding food and shelter?) Troi being raped impregnated by a glowy ball of light, and who can forget the geeky-fanboy's-wet-dream episode "The Perfect Mate" which is all about a woman specifically bred to become exactly what her husband needs her to be.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the show, but looking back on it from a more mature perspective than I possessed when I watched it originally back in high school, oy!

I don't think any of those things are really misogynistic, personally. The genteelly horrified reactions of the crew were sort of the point that none of these would be considered acceptable in a civilized society.

Must be Friday. Tree fell on my car.

The tree was dead and I was going to cut it down eventually. Did not know it was in imminent danger of pulling out by the roots, but there was more rain overnight that softened it up. It was so dead and rotting that when lifting it off another four feet broke off the top and bounced down the rear windshield.

The roof was crushed in but most of that got pushed up from the inside; there is only a small creased dent left. Part of the tree broke off on impact and knocked the glass out of the driver's side mirror.

I lost the same mirror on my last car also - backed the van into a garage support pillar and ripped the whole mirror off. Guess I'll be duct-taping again for now...

edit: fixed link
