What is up with parents letting their children die? Follow

Girl, 11, dies while being prayed over. She died from untreated diabetes. Her parents and some of their friends sat around praying over her, watching her slowly slip away and waited until AFTER she quit breathing to call 911.

Quote:
Neumann's stepfather, Brian Gordon, said his stepdaughter did nothing wrong in trusting in God to heal her daughter.

"We should have that right in this country," he said.

Are you serious? A child should be allowed to die because of the parents irrational fanatical beliefs? Sick.

No, in this case the parents were wrong. A judge would find the same conclusion (see the current story about the boy with cancer). Legal process has shown that, if a medical procedure or treatment has a significant chance of saving the child's life, and withholding or abstaining for said treatment will undoubtedly result in the child's death, the courts will make the child go through the treatment.

Why are you asking such a dumb rhetorical question? It says right in the article the mother is found guilty of second degree reckless homicide, so the obvious answer is "No, a child is not allowed to die because of the parents' irrational fanatical beliefs." Or add a caveat that they'll go to jail.

Apparently it's not ok to enforce your belief's onto someone else.

Maybe the kid had done some drugs and they wanted to remove her from the family?

One can certainly never be too harsh with one's wayward, drug using offspring. Exile, death, whatever it takes.

What better way to have nothing to do with them for the rest of your life than to let them die prematurely?

And you get to grieve! Oh, the delicious martyrdom.

Reminds me of an old joke.

A preacher is drowning in a lake after his fishing boat capsizes. His belief in the power of God is so absolute, he knows for a fact that God Himself will save him.

Another fishing boat comes along, and they throw him a life raft. He does not clutch it, and instead calls to the boaters, "Don't worry, I will be okay. God will save me!"

The boaters call 911, and a helicopter soon appears. They release a rope ladder for him to climb, but the preacher ignores it. "Don't worry, God will save me!"

Soon a firetruck and an ambulance arrive. The firemen swim out to the preacher, but by then he has lost consciousness. By the time he reaches the ambulance, he has died.

At the Gates of Heaven, the preacher meets with St. Peter, and he is very disappointed. "I was so sure that God would save me . . ." he says to St. Peter, crestfallen.

St. Peter frowns and looks at his file. "Well, we sent you a life raft, a helicoptor, a fire truck, and an ambulance. What more did you expect?!"

The preacher would go to hell because suicide is a mortal sin.

Disgusting, really disgusting. However it is important to not judge all Religions or denominations on the actions of a few. I myself hold no great love of organized religion I know who I serve and excercise my beliefs freely without the need of a building or peers and really often feel sorry for those who limp through life praying to god for every step and praising every mundaine life event as a miracle. Jehova doesn't want that, he doesn't ask us to do that the bible teaches common sense and courtesy not fanatical stupidity.

The loss of a child is sad, even moreso that the parents allowed it however consider the mother. She had faith that God would heal her child, her friends and pastor assured her he would, she honestly believed the child would live. She was naive and well stupid but still she did not want her child to die. Now in addition to dealing with knowing her decision resulted in the death of her child she has to re evaluate her faith which is now no doubt in question, She is I assure you emotionally and mentally destroyed at this point.
