Contract with Sprint is almost up, and I'm not sure as to whether I want to stick with them or not?

Anyone have any good experiences with a cell phone company? I know I could just google cell phone reviews, but I value the awesome opinions of Asylumites.

I use Alltel. They are one of the biggest companies where I live, and most everyone uses them.

It'll probably make a difference depending on where you live. Probably should look at who the majority of your family, friends, and coworkers use, since I think these days almost everyone offers free calls on the same network. And weight that in the comparison.

I've been with Verizon since 2001 and love them. They're are great if you travel quite a bit because you get reception everywhere. I went deep sea fishing and was the only person with reception. Also while driving through Texas, near big bend, we had reception.

The same goes for their wireless internet services. :) Price wise, there are probably better deals but service wise (to include customer service) I love Verizon.

I've used ATT for years. They have generally good coverage. Their data plans aren't the fastest (both sprint and verizon are generally faster) but they tend to have the newer phones available before most of the other companies.

I've never really had a problem with them. I have had major problems with Verizon.

I don't live in the States.

However, having done tech support for people there, I can tell you who NOT to use: Verizon.

Can you here me complaining now? Good!

Yes. But us staters get a discount on most services too. At least in Washington.

The hubby and I were using Sprint and not enjoying it--I would get text message spam in the middle of the ******* night, in Spanish, any time I left my phone on, though admittedly that might have been less the phone company's fault and more the fault of whoever had the number before me. Not being able to set my own tunes as ringtones even though I could put them on the phone to play did bug me, though.

Since he works at T-mobile now, we've switched over to that. The employee phone plan is crazy good (40% off 2 new phones a year, eventually it'll be free, and only $10 a month for each of us with unlimited internet and stuff), I expect it would cost a lot more for non-employees but I'm not sure how much. I <3 my new G1 though.

I've also been with AT&T for a while and never had any issues. They seem to have a better rate for what I need and the phones are a good price.

Normally you can get around this by getting a drm packaging program.

I have one on my notebook. It was free from the phone manufacturer ^.^

I'm a cheapskate and use a Verizon prepay plan. I take care of my phone (motorola V276), which I bought up front, and it is four years old and going strong. My bill is $15 a month, and I never use up all my time, so it rolls over and I can buy junk from the Verizon network (have Chuzzle and Tetris and stuff.)

So while I haven't had any problems with Verizon, I am not your typical user.

ditto. and when we did find an issue, they were quick to fix it (like when my mother spilled soda on her cell phone. They replaced it even though it was totally her fault.)

From my angle, I dealt with them as a supposed partner on our notebooks. I say supposed, because whenever it was an obvious network issue, instead of taking ownership, they'd keep shoving the customer back to us claiming it was hardware, and wanting us to foot the bill for a new card.

Of course, I'd run the diags which we wisely designed to be very accurate, and show them that it was a network authentication issue, which is where our responsibility would end.

I also often dealt with their internet support which did the same damn thing. It led to a lot of cancellation talk from the customer, but no idea if they went through it.

As I said, I'm not in the States, so I can't say I personally have and an issue with them.

But Bell Canada... Oh my word... If you come up here get Rogers.

T-mobile is the WORST. My sidekick never has service. I rarely have internet connection. Customer service is HORRIBLE!

I've been with verizon for some time, I didn't particularly have any issues with them. Work provides me with another phone that is AT&T. The difference I've noticed is reception for AT&T seems to be better in key locations, particularly at home and at work.

Also, I believe the I-phone is only provided by AT&T unless I'm mistaken. If you're partial to that model.

Sprint Palm Pre June 6th, if you get the data plan, its the cheapest plan you'll find and might be the best phone on the market if hype is true.

My aunt and uncle that live in town use Verizon and they can't stand it. They get awful reception in their house. They also don't have a landline anymore...

I use US Cellular which is localized to the midwest. It's not bad if you don't ever leave the midwest, but they don't even cover the entire US. When I was at FFXI Fan Fest 07 I realized how much it sucked being roaming the entire time. Not a fan. When my contract is up, I'm going somewhere else, probably AT&T or Sprint.

They cover Oregon, which isn't in the Midwest. I think it's more a case of "they have spotty coverage", which wouldn't surprise me.

They also have annoying commercials, which is a good way to keep me from signing up with them.

For now. Verizon is in talks with Apple for a version compatible with their network. It'll probably be another year or so though.
