I would be interested to know what you think the reaction to them would be if they went up in your town?

If the Iraq war went up in my town, I think someone would set fire to the billboard and start a forest fire.

It's not surprising, either. Mohammed's a really popular Muslim name.

Quite clever, however just because you have killed less people doesn't make you just. I wonder how many of those 1.03 million have been combatants?

If the war wasn't just in the first place, then it doesn't really matter does it?

Never met a girl named george.

The sign is also misleading in that it seems to ignore the massive death toll incurred during the Iran-Iraq war which Saddam started. I'm not sure how many of the casualties were Iraqis, but like a million people died in that war.

Edit: It uses the highest possible estimate for deaths during the Iraq war, and apparently, the lowest possible estimate for deaths during the Iran-Iraq war. It's a dodgy sign.

That said, the Iraq War is a piece of sh*t that should have either been done in 1991 or else not at all. They put the populace under harsh and totally dysfunctional sanctions for more than a decade, and then flew in and blew everything up with the sh*tty casus belli of "he has WMDs!"

Generally, though, killing less people than your opponent does is a good place to start on the scale of being more right than them.

If the war was unjust then the scale of killing merely changes the scope of the wrongness, not the degree.

Its like saying something is nearly sterile for example.

I said it was a good place to start, not that it was definitive.

Amen.

As for the Iran-Iraq war, it's a bit different. Most Iraqis were killed by Iranians, and vice-versa. If you say that the Iraqis killed in the Iraq-Iran war are victims of Saddam, then the Americans killed in the Iraq war are victims of George Bush.

As for the OP, if those posters went up in my town, nothing much would happen. Most people would be like "Gosh bruv, tell us something we don't know. Like, this is totally bad, big time, innit, blood?"

I'm not sure they'd say all that much in Boston either. There has never been much support for this war here either and you regularly see anti-war protesters in town. I like to see the people who are out every Sunday on the Portland to South Portland bridge in Maine. There are a few that have been protesting the war faithfully every weekend for several years so in the Northeast, at least, this sentiment is not unfamiliar.

Look, we were attacked without warning and the simple fact is that the Japanese had it coming to them. Time to stop protesting and get on board with the war.

My Mom went by the name 'George' for most of her adult life.

No billboards allowed on Maine highways. So, no worries about it here.

Ah, another false dilemma (unless George is the most common name for male Caucasian babies at the moment).

I think the comparison is that George is considered an inherently British name. Although I'm sure Nobby will come along an tell us it's a derivative Greorgen the Viking or something.

Stupid but thought provoking, South Africa is an interesting choice as they have similar Illegal Immigration problems as the U.S. (even under Apartheid)

Just think, if not for the Allies, Mohammar Qadafi might have been Sprechen zie Deutsch !!!
