Apart from cackling with Dracoid memories about the 'no child jokes' bit Smiley: lol, and rolling my eyes at the paranoid, ultra-defensive-**** bit about admin decisions being above discussion Smiley: rolleyes (For fUck's sake admins. Are you that inescure about your ability to defend your judgement?), I will continue to ignore the rules.

Firstly, re. the boards in general:

I started in the EQ section and as I no longer play, I only ever look at =4 and =28. I'm on a sabbatical from LoTRO, but even then didn't bother here - the LoTRO sections of Allakhazam are ****-poor.

Re. OOT:

The admins need to either stick to the rules re. swearing and adult references, or ditch it. I occasionally wander close to the edge there, but primarily OOT is for lolcats and grinning at adolescent angst. If I want to use toilet language or reference something NSFW, I use the Asylum.

Re the Asylum:

There are no rules.

That's why I stuck around here. I can say what the fUck I like, and know that if I get rated down it's fair game. No Rules.

If an admin takes a dislike to my post, they can nuke it. No rules see? "All is fair in Love and =4" (feel free to sig that). I can slag off DF and Kao and the other admins and see if they rise to the bait. Unless it's Kaolian's time of the month, it's usually taken in the irreverent spirit in which it was posted. It's why Jeff had this place built and sparsely furnished in the first place, no?

The Asylum has a life of it's own, and unless I decide to off myself in a Dracoid way, I hope to stick around.

If the admins decide they can no longer tolerate the Asylum mentality, I'll either wander off through boredom, or get banninated for crossing a newly and arbitrarily drawn line that I don't give a Nun's CUnt about.

In conclusion:

Dear Admins.

Stick your rules up your over-stretched ***** and stop thinking you're running the United Nations. It's a motherfUcking Internet gamer's forum!

FUck Off.

Love

Nobby

You're only saying that because you know my 2nd wife was 9 years old. Smiley: mad

I won't say which admins she dumped me for, but your guess would be pretty accurate Smiley: sly

Exactly what Nobby said.

Except the LoTRo thing, I'm still in it, innit.

And the OOT thing. Occasional lurker, but the interesting threads are usually 8 pages long by the time I see them, and I hate being late.

And yeah, admins, sack the fuck up why dontcha?

As long as you don't use the N word or talk about which cities you'd like to see wiped off the face of the earth because they're filled with blood sucking vampires who feed off tax dollars.

First off. Grammatical/Spelling error:

Amendment 3:

Quote:
Sites hosting illegal downloads, "private" servers, orand material that has been brought to our attention as being in violation U.S. law isare not allowed and will be immidiatlyimmediately removed.

Actually, it's unclear if you mean that section to be a list of things other sites are hosting (in which case the "or" works, but it's still plural), or whether it's a list of which "sites hosting illegal downloads" is one separate item (in which cast "and" is correct, and it's also still plural).

I'm going to go with the group here with regards to the Child Harassment bits. IMO, there's no real reason to single this one issue out. IMO, *any* content which is offensive "significantly above and beyond the level of content we would normally encounter in these forums" can be subjected to forum moderation if someone complains about it. I'd just leave the whole subject more broadly and trust that our admins are going to usually make the right choices. Being too specific can lead to as much or more abuse I think.

Making it about a specific topic just begs for people to second guess admin decisions and play rules lawyer and will probably just cause even more headaches for the admins. I think a broad disclaimer that the decision as to whether content is "out of bounds" for the forum it's posted on is up to the admins should be sufficient. Most of us know where those boundaries lie, and those who don't deserve an occasional slap on the wrist.

As to amendment 5... I do think that some rule about admin interaction should be present. Some posters (often those disagreeing with decisions related to the sorts of decisions I just talked about) go out of their way to bait admins. They poke and poke until they get a reaction and then cry "admin abuse" when it happens. It's funny when it's in a Monty Python skit (come see the violence inherent in the system!), but not so much when you're the admin and it's being done to you. I have the same sympathy for that behavior as I do for people who bait police and then cry foul when they get shot, beat, etc ("don't taze me bro!"). Sorry. That just doesn't wash and shouldn't. Unfortunately, given the way these things are handled on a forum, there's often a lack of evidence about what exactly happened, so the whiner gets to invent his tale of woe and abuse at the hands of the sinister and power-mad admin in question.

Which is unfair to say the least...

I'd suggest a rule that discussions and complaints about admins specifically must occur in the feedback forum. That's not to say that you can't post about something an admin did informationally, but if you're criticizing or complaining about it (or about a specific admin as opposed to something that occurred), it should be in the feedback forum. So, a post like "What happened to <some post>" followed by explanations is ok. The second someone starts whining about how lame it is that their favorite post/thread/whatever got deleted or moved, that really belongs elsewhere IMO. Doubly if it's accompanied with queries about the sexual activities of the admin involved...

As a yin to that yang though, there should also be rules regarding admin posting of "normal" content. If an admin posts in a thread content-wise (as opposed to doing his/her job as an admin), he's opened up to whatever responses would be acceptable on that forum and can't complain about it. Obviously, choosing to use that as an excuse to bait said admin out of the context of the thread in question should still be a no-no, but if an admin posts an opinion in a thread he/she should absolutely be subject to responses to that opinion and they should be judged no more harshly than if that response had been given to someone else.

That's just my take on the issue.

So you'll be ok with it when Graham Priest stabs you in the face, then? Good to know.

Amendment 5: Discussion of administrative decisions on the forums

No discussion of administrative action, policies or status is allowed on the forums. All such discussions will be removed. Discussions regarding administrator action must be conducted via PM or E-mail

Bad IdeaSmiley: glare

Really it's a Bad rule that can create more harm then good.

If an Admin can't take criticism then they should be admins.

I used to be a member of a board for people who suffered from various auto-immuned illnesses and the owner allowed the 2 admins to rule with an iron fist.

Someone posted a link to another board, and got banned. Then several people spoke up in support of the first person and got banned. When a doctor who often gave great information got banned I had enough and just made one post confirming that he was banned, which lead to me being banned.

I can't go back to the board due to ip address is banned when the connect me to my old screen name. It's the screen name I use everywhere on the Internet except where I don't want people to figure out who I am, or they tend to think of me under an old screen name I used way back when I last as active in a guild.

As to children and personal information, don't post it if you don't want to be flamed over the things you write here and elsewhere on the Internet.

I get disappointed, when no one insults me or my kids when I mention them. Some of my favorite posts have push the line to the limit, but only a few posters have been stupid enough to cross it.

And the fun of watching Varus get banned, is seeing how long he can stay away and what new sock name he'll come up with. Sure it's a shame that sometimes folks miss out on the sub-default post he makes, before the banning, but it's what happens and no need to go crying about it to the admins.

So grow up folks and don't post anything you don't want your child to read. Doesn't matter if they are in diapers or adults, if it can upset them or you then it shouldn't be posted. that cute little rug rat will be able to read and find your old posts someday if they are curious. Darn I still find posts about my middle child 11 years after she made all the entertainment news shows for being a witch.

I have 3 grown daughters of who one reads the Asylum regularly, but doesn't post or even have an account as far as I know. I was told that some subjects are off limits, which I respect and told her to grow a pair if she can't hamdle what I do decide to post.

I read through the first page, haven't bothered with the rest yet, but this statement pretty much sums it all up. If you decide to post personal crap on an internet forum, be prepared to have it thrown in your face. If you haven't figured this one out by now, you really don't belong here (or anywhere on the internet for that matter, but that's another discussion). I think all of us have posted personal stuff at one point or another, though some are obviously more prone to sharing than others. By posting it on an internet forum you are making it public. If someone decides to point out obvious (or perceived) hitches in your personality, family, addictions, defects, whatever than you opened the gate. Not our fault if some chose to step on in.

Oh, and BT, if you and Guenny have offspring I may just decide to rape it. Or your dogs.

Fair warning.

Actually, I went to them because either you or Guenny was going between forums constantly posting the same retarded tripe. If she wanted to flame GB here and only here, fine and dandy, but when I'm clicking on 4 or five different posts in 2 forums and it's happening, for ****'s sake LET IT GO.

NAILS. CHALKBOARD.

Either finally go out, and just throw down in an all out old ***** fight, or kiss, make up, and video it for the net to see.

New revisions posted with most feedback accounted for. Items in green were on the previous revisions and didn't meet with much negative comment so they will likely go in without further discussion unless someone raises specific points.

There is a new amendment 5 that ties in with our new "report post" feature and has no relation to the previously proposed controversial amnedment 5 that no longer exists. (down at the bottom of each post, to the right. the report post function basically sends a special ticket style PM out to all admins with the name of the reporter, a reason for reporting, and then a few other controlls. If you see an objectionable post, use it. Please don't overuse it though (we'll let you know if you are).

A couple other minor revisions, nothing earth shattering. There is a change to the Terms of service that is tentative based on the freerealsm site, but I don't expect that to change much. We'll leave comments open another week, then if there are no major revisions these rules will replace the current ruleset after we figure out a way to unintentionally nerf paladens.

What kind of spectrum are you talking about in Amendment 1(not that I'm likely to ever post a survey)?

What if a forum regular posts a commercial survey?

What about new users being gung-ho about the poll system?

I see lots of implied language there, some clarification might be useful in the future.

I think that amendment refers to the continuous stream of gaming surveys lazy graduates want to post on this website.

It doesn't have anything to do with using the [poll] feature premium users have access to.

Actually re-reading the amendment, it's pretty explicit about exactly what it refers to and I am correct in my statement above.
