Despite the fact that I generally fantasize that BT being flayed alive or killed through an anvil dropping on his head, I will say that the Melody ****** incident is one of the most lol-worthy events on the OOT ever.

Didn't the insulting of her children happen after she dragged Mindel out and aired a bunch of personal stuff that had been told to her in confidence by Mindel? (meaning she instigated it/ victim precipitation??)

No, that's not how it seemed to me. Melody wanted BT to put his little BT inside the said ****** and BT was in utter disbelief that she would actually try to seriously seduce him in such a manner. Mindel's annoyance at her seemed to be more about how @#%^ed up her actions were, with all the suicide threats and other drama queen sh*t that was going on for alot longer than I think people realize.

I don't recall her airing any personal stuff about me. I don't actually recall confiding any personal stuff to her, for that matter. I tend to keep really personal stuff pretty close to my chest.

She did, however, try to attack me over my divorce. A move parroted by Growlingbunny a while later. Both times were adorable, in my opinion. I'm a smart troll, and anything that would actually upset me to have ridiculed is definitely kept off the forums and shared only with close friends, if at all.

Bingo. I can't stand people who threaten suicide for attention. You have one shot at saying you're going to end yourself, and after that you either get help or get it over with.

As much as I'd like to stand on some compensatory moral high ground, I have to admit that I attacked her children basically entirely free of provocation. I mean, other than her constant mention of them and a myriad of other demonstrative behaviors which identified her as a perfect trolling target.

That really makes me sound like a pretty awful person, but I trust you'll all believe me when I say: I'm not.

ahh ok. Because I remembered you being pretty cordial until she tried mocking your divorce. - I had just finally returned and didn't realize Melody was Nagah because the Melody persona was "out there". It just seemed to me that she was snapping at Mindel for "no good reason".

Rightfully so. I don't know why when "mothers" post that kind of nonsense that they get upset when people don't embrace them.

Bt, I still say you were provoked in that instance.

I read a couple of the posts but I'll go back in a few and read the rest. Most of the amendments are fine but I disagree with 2.

Quote:
Hostile content directed at children of other forum members: At no point, in any forum is it allowable to target children of a forum member with harsh insults, harassment, or other deliberate provocations aimed at causing strife with another forum member. The definition of harsh insults, harassment, or other deliberate provocations is to be determined by the Administrator after recieving a complaint from an injured party, and would be considered to be significantly above and beyond the level of content we would normally encounter in these forums. Such actions will be automatically considered excessive and persistent, and will be dealt with accordingly. There is a general exception allowed for good natured statements made in jest, that are recognized to be in jest by both parties, however in a dispute we will rule against the party who originates the statement.

Sorry, lame. Even as a mom myself I believe that if you're willing to post about your kids you have to be willing to take **** from others. And if you cant handle it and realize half the time it's done in jest, then dont post about your kids here. Easy as that. Especially in forum=4. This place is no holds barred and if people want to post about their kids than it needs to be clear what they post is open to any type of posting style.

Quote:
Amendment 5: Discussion of administrative decisions on the forums

No discussion of administrative action, policies or status is allowed on the forums. All such discussions will be removed. Discussions regarding administrator action must be conducted via PM or E-mail

No way in hell. You guys might be admins and we respect you for the hard work you do, but you're not exempt from ridicule when needed or in fun. Kao, DF, and all the other former admins here on the Asylum are usually cool and understanding about it. And if we can not open up a discussion when things dont look good from our POV how the hell can we get things potentially fixed or a discussion/compromise going? There are some admins here who havent figured out how to grow a pair of balls and realize that disagreements on the board are part of the job they signed up for. If they can not defend themselves and feel the need to remove any type of criticism, then that's a clear sign that either they can not handle their job, or something smells fishy.

Oh and this!

Quote:
The reason that our family in the Asylum is enduring is because we feel like we can talk about anything and many of us have disclosed vast amounts of information about our personal lives and histories and value the openness and acceptance (even under anonymity) that we have here. To start, 8 years later, to put new rules on what we can and can't say and do and talk about will only be extremely detrimental to both my personal enjoyment of the forum, but the atmosphere and unity of the community as a whole.

While we get new posters coming in, and old posters phasing out (or taking long sabbaticals such as myself) the heart of the Asylum is comradeship, even if it's not staring you in the eye. A lot of us have been here for years. We've debated, discussed, yelled at, insulted one another as we grow up and older. We watched as people get married, have kids, start new careers, fall down, and pick themselves up again. There are not many places you can go and say anything about any subject and still have a connection where you send Christmas cards to one another, after calling them or their kids complete morons, or being called such. Actually, I cant think of any other place where anything is allowed to be said and you still realize that the constant bickering is like a Family Thanksgiving with all the black sheep in one family shoved in one room 365 days a year. It's fantastic! But it's not for everyone, and those people will realize they just dont have what it takes to cut it here. Thats what OOT was supposed to be for. The people who can not understand this dynamic. Take away our ability to have fun with each other in forum=4, and you cut out a piece of the heart that essentially keeps the Asylum together.

this is exactly how I feel. I butt heads often with posters here and in the OOT (although less often than I used to) and yet I feel connected to the group. I've watched DSD go from 1 to 3 children, seen some of us go through messy divorces and come out better people from them and best of all, I've made fantastic RL friends.

Even people I haven't yet got the chance to meet, I would gladly share a meal with them (even knowing full well that the following day on the forum, I'd be ridiculed. I know, now, not to take everything so seriously.) The strong opinions are enjoyable because they gain a reaction (good or bad).

If after all those years you don't grow a thick skin, there are other forums to move on to.

The only bad thing is, though, the OOT became comfortable with one another, as well. A lot of us have been posting for years, become accustom to "insulting" one another over that turkey dinner.

I'm not sure, though, that the Asylum would welcome the OOT coming to their Thanksgiving table and having their own form of comradeship. Some from the OOT can make the transition and be comfortable in both forums. But certainly not all.

Edit: I am also in no way implying that I think the Asylum deserves a rule set. Just rambling, sorry.
