Seemed to work at keeping them in their holes and away from nuclear facilities
Bush gave the Taliban six free years to regroup and build new strength. It was being reported
years ago that Afghanistan was increasingly under Taliban control once you left Kabul city limits.
"Oh, no! You just don't hear about all the
good in Afghanistan! It's just that people only hear about all the bad in Iraq -- Afghanistan is on the rise! They had an
election!! This changes everything!"
I noted
years ago that Pakistan had little interest in truly fighting against the Taliban. I noted years ago that it was a shameful joke that we'd smile and nod as Pakistani agents sold nuclear weapon secrets to Iran, Syria and N. Korea and received house arrest for it. And we continue to send big bags of money to Pakistan to thank them for their help.
"Oh, no! Pakistan is our
ally! We can't pressure them! We have to let them figure this out on their own and we can't say anything or else the Taliban will take over! OMG!! Obama said he'd attack terrorists in Pakistan! What a bad, BAD move! That's just like invading and we can't touch those terrorists without Pakistan's permission! Oh, look -- Pakistan just gave the Taliban control over a porous border region*. Let's clap our hands at this smart move by Pakistan!"
Yeah. Obviously it was Obama's weakness that caused this problem
*Funny, I don't recall any of the Bushies crying "Appeasement!" and making snide Chamberlain references when our good ally Pakistan did this...
