Ding 30! I have officially left my 20's behind and now join the ranks with what some people assume are grownups. I've been promised though that I'm exempt from such frivolities and plan on being as immature as I have been. Smiley: cool
I woke up this morning and went to grab my first cup of coffee. There, leaning against the coffee machine was a home made card from Xavier with a great picture of the family, along with baby #3. Behind the card was a Kindle 2. After freaking out in happiness I've been spending the past hour reading the directions and browsing reading material. I also got a GC for $50 to start me off on my addiction of doom. Smiley: grin I used to own the very first ebook years ago and loved it so much. I was really bummed when they stopped making them, and have been cautiously hopeful the kindle or Sony would actually take off, but hesitant to get one again on the fear I would get addicted again and they would stop making ebooks. Fortunately this looks like it's here to stay so the Mr splurged. Plus, it's cheaper than the trip to Vegas he promised me years ago on my 30th, which is put on hold due to the fact I cant get smashed at the sake bar he was going to take me to for a little while yet.

This afternoon I've got an 80 minute massage appointment, and this evening I'll either head out with the fam for some seafood or we'll get the makings for a dinner of steamed mussels in white wine sauce, depending on how Ashe seems to be holding up. All in all a good day!

As for Beltane, happy Beltane to you all. Here's a little ditty to start your day off (words are NSFW so beware)

(I love having a song like this for my birthday! Smiley: sly )

May you all get to enjoy the official day of outside fucking in the proper fashion!

Oh cool, enjoy the Kindle. It's so much easier than going to the library/bookstore. I end up buying a new book every couple weeks.

Happy Birthday Again,

What is this Kindel? How much are they and how much is it to download the books? This sounds very interesting...

And yes, for all those wondering, I have been living under a rock.

The kindel is an electronic book made through amazon. It allows you to download thousands of books, blogs, newspapers, and magazines, all wireless (no docking to the computer), which means you can download anywhere, anytime. It's screen is built to mimic an actual book, with no glare from sunlight and easy on the eyes. You can bookmark, add notes, look up words and a slew of other things. Costs of the reading material you purchase are actually cheaper then regular books in a bookstore. I just bought a few books for a total of $20 which would have normally cost me $45 if I went to a bookstore. (since there is no such thing as hardcovers you're also not paying through your nose for those.) The Kindel can hold a crapload of books too ( I think 1500 at one time?) Check the link out in my first post, it should give you a lot of info on it. Cost is $360 and worth it if you read like a fiend (which I do)

Less than 8 weeks and DSD Spawn #3 shall make his entrance into the world Smiley: nod

I got some 30 week pics and he looks exactly like DSD Spawn #1 and #2. The MRs genes are strong. Everything looks great, hes perfect in every way, and I'm just ready to be done!

Clicking here might be a good idea. Of course the price of the thing is high enough that if you don't habitually buy large amounts of books, it'll be cheaper to just buy the real thing.

I'd add to this a few things. Books are displayed in "e-ink." It's an actual ink-like substance stored under the surface of the screen, and when you change a page on your Kindle the molecules of e-ink are rearranged to form the words electronically. The practical upshot of this is that A) there's no problem with glare, because it's not a little LCD display, and B) once a page has been "arranged" the Kindle exerts no electricity to keep it there.

Also, there's a bit of FREE wireless internet access you can use from anywhere on the kindle. It only really works on mostly-text websites, but I've used google, google maps, wikipedia, and have even come to Allakhazam, though I wasn't able to post (I don't think the Kindle's operating system can interact with the java or whatever code the post buttons and whatnot are written in)

So yeah. You can be driving around, trying to find something, and call up Google Maps for free, and get directions, which you can display on the screen indefinitely, because they take no energy. Just one of the many, many uses I've found for the thing.

I figure mine has halfway paid for itself. I've had it for two months.

Happy B-day DSD!

another cool feature: text to speech. On my way to my massage today I threw that on to check it out and could listen to my book while I drove. While the voice is still robotic, it's one of the better computerized voices I've heard. And you can choose between male or female.

Holy crap I heart this thing!

I want a Kindle so bad, but I can't afford one at the moment. Enough of my coworkers have one that I have Kindle envy. Reading the books on my iPhone really sucks comparatively (but at least I have something to do on the bus)

It never mattered. Not when talking about the Kindle.
Now folks cant go up to you and say "Hey I love that book. Have you read?"
Now they can say "Oh a kindle? what are you reading?"
