F 16 Photo Op in NYCFollow

Well we all know about W's photo op landing a fighter on an aircraft carrier so I'm wondering what you liberals think of Obama's F 16 photo op?

That said, I don't see how this is a partisan issue. It was stupid no matter who you are.

The same could be said about a lot of **** in politics, but c'est la vie.

It's already been discussed to death yesterday in OOT. Obama seems to have had no part in the decision, Bloomberg kvetched that he wasn't informed, and then made to eat his words because it turns out one of his staffers didn't tell him about it. It was a dumb move that was done to update military file photos; all local law enforcement was notified.

I think Obama had nothing to do with it. I'm sure you'll argue otherwise.

It was a somewhat poorly executed move on most levels starting with the official who decided to update the photo-book to the NY official who was informed and failed to tell the mayor.

The simple fact that the photo-op occured is pretty uninteresting. The government takes these pictures and slaps them onto postcards, bedroom posters and photo books on a somewhat regular basis so they can sell them in the giftshops of federal tourism sites alongside the die-cast toys and snap-together models. The current president, whoever it is, doesn't even factor into it.

I kinda doubt it was even Obamas 'idea' to get a fresh new pic of AirForce One (Two).

The story I heard was the white house had contacted NYC officials. Those officials failed to disseminate the info to 911 dispatch/the police/etc.

So, someone wants a new picture of the shiny. They make some notifications. Go fly through NYC and cause a fright.

I'm sure you, and Rush, will be finding all sorts of ways to dis YOUR pres over this but truly it's no BFD.

And what about the fact that this blunder shut down NYC and probably cost millions?

This whole thing is stupid. Airplanes fly over cities all the time. There is a major airport near that area where planes fly lower than that, and the plane was @#$%^& AIRFORCE 1! Only the most distinctive 747 in the entire planet. And the Fighter escort was clearly following the plane, not trying to direct it or shoot it down. Yes, your buildings got hit by airplanes. Truly tragic. but to be outraged about airplanes flying around is just ******* stupid. What kind of message does that send to the children in the street when they see adults cowering in fear? For shame new york.

Bush's flight, "big deal" or not, was specifically to promote Bush and his agenda. This flight was to sell tchochkes at the Air & Space Museum. I'm not sure why you'd keep comparing them aside from a major case of butt-hurt.

Er, Air Force One is any of a few planes that the president can be traveling on at any point. There's no single Air Force One. So yes, this is an Air Force One plane.

There are two air force ones. The one being used by the pres is 'called' air force one. The one not being used is called air force two. But they are pretty much identical and interchangeable.

Air Force One is kinda like Dread Pirate Robert.
