This is a news article from BBC:

Quote:
A Palestinian has died after he was hit by a tear gas canister during a protest against the West Bank barrier, protesters and medics say.

The Israeli military said it was investigating the incident in the West Bank town of Bilin.

It said tear gas and rubber-coated steel bullets were used to disperse rock-throwing rioters.

Last month a US protester was left in a coma after he was hit in the head by a tear gas canister in a nearby village.

Demonstrations take place weekly in Bilin, where residents have long protested against the loss of land and freedom of movement caused by the building of the barrier, which Israel says is for security.

Bassem Abu Rahmeh, aged about 30, died in a hospital in Ramallah on Friday. A doctor told AP news agency he had been hit in the chest by a tear gas canister.

The Israeli military said it would work with Palestinian medics to determine the cause of his death.

Israel began building the West Bank barrier in 2002. It is now about two-thirds complete.

It has been widely criticised internationally for looping into Palestinian areas around Israeli settlements, rather than following the Green Line, which marks the boundary that separates Israel from the West Bank.

The International Court of Justice ruled in 2004 that the barrier was illegal where it cut into the West Bank and called for it to be pulled down.

Earlier on Friday, a knife-wielding Palestinian was shot dead after he tried to stab people in a settlement in the south of the West Bank, the Israeli military said.

Palestinian police said they were still investigating the incident in Beit Hagai, but confirmed the dead man was Rabah Hejazi Sidr, 17.

While I try not to make this a habit of this, but I couldn't help it in this occasion. What would they write on his tombstone? "Murdered by an enemy tear gas canister?" That's probably one of the most embarrassing ways to die, on par with the British man who died after a cop tripped him over.

How do you intend to die, oh mighty warrior? Drowning in the blood of your enemies, perhaps?

I plan on dying of natural causes... Heart attack, old age, cancer maybe...

But not from getting hit by a non-lethal form of crowd control.

Well, obviously, that would be by definition impossible.

I know, right? What kind of ******* do you have to be, dying while protesting for your rights? I mean, you'd think you would know the odds against you here. What an embarrassment to his family. Smiley: rolleyes

For non-lethal crowd control, there are a lot of these stories, eh?

Maybe if you take the defintion of "non-lethal" by itself and literally.

But if you refer to "non-lethal weapons", it's far from impossible (obviously, as shown in the article).

A lot? Really?

I have seen very few. How often are these people being hit by tear gas canisters?

A taser is also supposed to be a non-lethal weapon. People die a lot from those. Same with batons and I beleive I've also heard of deaths caused by pepper spray. A tear gas canister is probably heavy, so if it was to hit someone in the right place, it could easily kill.

A handful of people are not "people dying a lot".

I'm sure more humans die from their bedding than they do from forms of non-lethal weaponry.

Enough to safely say it's not a non-lethal weapon.

That is eight to nine times better than being hit in the chest with a canister.

I would certainly have a hearty chuckle if this man's bizarre death sparks some notion of peace. Doubtful, but you know how those wacky guys down in the Middle East are.

Official1: He seems to have died from "Peace."
Official2: I knew it. "Peace" is deadly, we cannot have exist anywhere in this region.

Part of the reason they want to work with them to determine the cause of death is to make sure that the man died from what was claimed that he died from.

Actually got to listen to a lecture/ Q and A a while back about the recent Israeli/Palestinian conflict. In some of the cases where there are civilian deaths supposedly caused by Israelis through some action or another, they wanted to examine the bodies with the Palestinians to see if the civilians actually died from what they supposedly died from.

Well I don't know yet, but I have an uncle who died of a heart attack while having a romp in bed at night. That's one great way to go to 'heaven'!

Ya, protesters don't throw rocks at police officers.

There's a line that gets crossed once you start doing that.
