A coworker insisted I watch this video. I cried. Another co-worker comes to my desk before the video has even finished I'm trying to ignore the big fat tear I can feel on my cheek. I found myself trying to explain.

I'm thinking either I got emotional because this woman is the same age as me and has never been kissed, but at least now the world knows she can sing. Or, maybe it's just womanly cyclic stuff stimulating the tear-duct.

Reportedly 11 million people have hit on this you tube, probably 12 million now. So you've probably seen it.

Did you cry?..don't lie.

It's okay, Elinda. We all cried, except Smash. We'll probably hear about that later.

He laughed like a ******* hyena. Then he said it was probably a set up. When I looked up information on her background, citing evidence that it was not a set up nor is she in any way tricking us and has had a somewhat tragic upbringing and life story, he told me I was making him sick.

It's ok. Ask him if he enjoyed Bridge to Terrabithia.

She was awesome. While I didn't cry, it was certainly a beautiful rendition.

These guys were good, too.

The attention this one performance has gotten is a bit mind boggling. Wonder if she knows any other songs.

I don't know how the "Got Talent" shows work, but I assume she'll be making more appearances in later rounds, no? I'll be watching BitTorrent and YouTube to see what happens.

This is an interesting commentary on the pre-judging that was done based upon her appearance. I wonder if she'll be glammed up a bit more if she continues to do well.

I've never seen these talent shows. All the clips I've seen are invariably of people who look like models either with a great deal (or very little) talent. They don't have even one average looking, older person on per week? Do they just not get through the filtering?

I believe on American Idol they have an age limit for contestants. Somewhere in the mid-20's.

I've seen contestants who aren't much to look at (not butt-ugly though) but I assume home audience bias towards the more attractive tends to weed out the more average folks early into the competition unless they're exceptionally talented.

That makes sense. I saw some coverage in the local news when they held auditions at the Rose Bowl (years ago) and your statement is consistent with that.

Probably. It's human nature to change some thing good into a "more acceptable" form.

She has a beautiful, powerful voice, but the song choice wasn't quite in the meatiest part of her range -- she sang those soaring high notes without cracking. I'd like to hear her try something a tich higher; I think that the best part of her range is about the time I start to struggle to maintain the color in my voice, and that song was in my range.

I didn't cry, but I did a quiet nod of acknowledgment.

(Btw, if I ever drop 50 lbs, I'm totally going on American Idol and destroying everyone else.)

It was the moustache and the scary eyebrows that confirmed it for me.

*rolleyes* I loved her singing. I will admit the whole "It's a man, man!" line from Austin Powers passed through my mind when I saw her at first though. XD
