I'm curious if Obama knows how Thomas Jefferson handled the barbary pirates?

Gee I dunno varrus, why don't you link us to the scathing Conservative comparison/criticism you obviously just got done reading so we can speculate on that ourselves?

I'm sure the US marines having leather neck protectors will be slightly less effective against RPGs than cutlasses.

And I'm not sure how fighting the rag-tag bands of Somali pirates is going to be more effective in the long-term than when they are actual governments. You can't just bombard cities like back in the 1800s; modern technology would move world support against us.

I'm still more worried about soldiers killed daily in Iraq than a few Somali pirate attacks.

Ash,

Why? It's obvious Obama would rather talk to terrorists than actually deal with them. I'm sure the situation will resolve itself and he can go back to bowing to the saudi king.

Translation:

Terrorists kill people, lets kill terrorists(even though you're talking about the leaders of NON-TERRORIST countries) instead of trying to talk to "terrorists" to find a peaceful solution with less death.

Some would argue talking with them IS dealing with them. And I'm confused... are the pirates now terrorists and Saudis? Your jumps in logic seem, er, illogical.

I'm concerned with how Obama handles radical islamic terrorists. This is the first act like this of his presidency; the world is watching.

I thought we were talking about the Pirates?

This is hardly a new problem. Clinton did nothing, Bush did nothing, nor Denmark, Great Britain, Iraq, Japan, Sweden, USSR, West Germany, Kenya, India or the UN, so why the hell should Obama be called to task on this?

Somalians are Islamic, hence, they are radical.

I don't get it. "Terrorists" are in it to combat the West's influence on the Middle East. These pirates are profiteering. Why are we lumping the two together?

Who the **** is cowering? They ran them off the ship, and now the captain is a hostage. They're not even in our territorial waters. What the **** are you talking about?

And the reason I mentioned Thomas Jefferson is because he had to deal with this exact same situation and had a very successful outcome.

Just link what ever blog your reading today already and be done with it.

Also, can you confirm, with a cite, that the pirates are Muslim?

Well, it's a good bet since Somalia is a Muslim nation. But these guys aren't out on some holy jihad, they're just in it for the dollars. Hijack ship, keep crew in good health, collect million dollar ransom, release crew & ship, rinse & repeat. They don't want to start harming the crews because then the crews start fighting back rather than be tortured or beheaded or whatever and the easy money becomes less easy.

More of an attack by Capitalistic Islam, really.

#21REDACTED, Posted: Apr 10 2009 at 7:19 AM, Rating: Unrated, (Expand Post) Let's see how this turns out. I think we can all agree these people are terrorists; and yes they're muslim. I know that's not a very pc thing to say in this day and age but those are the facts. Now Jophed can feel free to disucss motives and delude himself into believing the ransom they expect isn't going towards jihadists and other radical muslim ventures.

Smiley: um

They're ******* pirates.

So now every cent collected by any Muslim person goes towards the jihad?

For the record, is there anything bad happening in the world right now that isn't Barack Obama's fault?
