Well, I think in their mind they aren't protecting her virginity. I don't know what they call it, but they are less worried about her having sex, and more worried about her having sex outside of marriage.

It seemed more like a spanking than it sounds like if you just read the story. Not that this makes it less abhorrent (sp?) but hardly unbearable for the victim either. The forced marriage is something else though I guess.

Yeah, in my mind, being even mock beaten in public for having an electrician repair something in your home, then being forced to marry said electrician, is pretty ******* unbearable.
